For context they're using liberal to mean anyone who's pro capitalism but not a fascist. Which is pretty dumb imo since like a third of the republican base are committed fascists (regardless of whether they're open about it or not).

The first and currently only person to run for the US presidency from prison was a socialist called Eugene V. Debs, he also helped found the IWW and the DSA. He was repeatedly arrested for labour activism and criticising the foreign policy of the USA until he died in 1926.

It would be incredibly funny for him to become the second person in history to run for president from prison though ngl
