  • That still exists, CGI has gotten cheaper and more accessible too

  • Fair enough. Both is better

  • I don't see why I should need to pull up my phone to order food at a restaurant.

  • This is basically the alt-right approach to debate. They don't care about being right, they just want to own the libs.

  • One of the newest Brandon Sanderson books "The Frugal Wizard's Guide to Surviving Medieval England" has a similar premise. It's a novel so not a how-to guide so to speak, but parts of it are an in-world manual on how to survive in a medieval alternate dimension.

  • I know "state-funded media" is an ominous word to Americans, but most European countries have their own government broadcaster and news organization, entirely funded through taxes.
Those generally offer high-quality non-biased journalism (of course it's always based on how authoritarian the government is). The British BBC, the Swedish SVT, the German DW etc. are all publicly owned broadcasting companies.

  • Me on my flight from Seoul to Stockholm: "oh look, grassy plains. I must be over Russia!"
13 hours later: "oh would you look at that, more grassy plains, still over Russia 😒" Flying over Russia is like flying over the ocean except it's grass.

  • It's kind of funny how aware Danes are of their weird numbers system. I speak Norwegian and whenever I'm in Denmark they use the more sensible Norwegian number system to explain to me the prices of stuff (probably because I give them the deer in the headlights-stare whenever I hear something like "fem og halvfjerds").

  • Hotel maids have some kind of superhuman strength that enables them to tuck the sheets that tight

  • On the same topic, the Will Smith/Chris Rock Oscar slap pretty much saturated the internet for a few days

  • If you think living somewhere else will make you happier, you should do it as long as it doesn't screw you over financially. Even if you're probably not at risk of persecution as a white male, I can fully understand not wanting to live in a christofascist hellscape. If you have friends in a more desirable area I'd consider moving there.

  • I heard Captcha was being used as training data for self-driving cars. Which probably explains why almost all of them ask you to identify cars, motorcycles, bridges, traffic lights, crosswalks etc.

  • When you accidentally pick the wrong texture in Blender

  • I recognized at least 20 actors in Oppenheimer, but that didn't impact my immersion at all because they did such a phenomenal job. I don't think deepfaking the real Oppenheimer's face onto Cillian Murphy would've made a difference.

  • The robot standup was the gag that convinced me "ah, Futurama is back"

  • Well damn, I'm humbled. Thanks for posting the link, I really didn't think that was real. The picture looks fake to me but I'm not gonna pretend I know better than NASA.

  • I'm Icelandic and I've never
    a) seen the Northern Lights appear while the sun is out
    b) seen them form that shape, which seems off based on the angle
    c) seen them in summer, which is when this seems to have been taken.

So yeah, my bullshit detector is going off right now.

  • I forgot about Shang Chi, that was a fun movie.
Tbh I haven't seen any of the newer Spider-Man movies, aside from Spiderverse which was incredible.
