  • It's nice to see LGBTQ+ people getting accepted by the church. But what are they gonna do about pedophile priests, exactly?

  • The movie is one of my favorite sci-fi movies ever! It's nothing like the book except for the premise, and way better than the book. I can't recommend it enough!

  • Thing is, you used to be able to do that. Then they quetly took that option away.

  • Who the fuck thinks it's sustainable to keep raising the price of housing indefinitely? If people's salaries aren't also going up indefinitely, who will be able to afford to buy it?

  • guitars@lemmy.world seems to be the most active community I've found, but it could be more active I guess

  • I can chat with anyone about guitars and gear for hours on end. Sometimes I go to music shops just to look at stuff and chat with the staff

  • That's a bit offensive to whores. They only sell their bodies, he's selling democracy.

  • That's a bummer. Hope they manage to iron out those issues because I was planning on getting one when my Samsung dies.

  • there are no good options to buy an “ethical” phone

Actually there are. Look up Fairphone and Shiftphone

  • Yeah I think Mastodon is a more future-proof alternative but the lack of any kind of algorithm and tiny userbase is a big problem.
I'm sure Bluesky will get a bit shittier over time but at least it's not being run into the ground by a megalomaniac like Musk.

  • I switched to Bluesky a few weeks ago and it's so much better than Twitter. It's a smaller number of people but the vibe is generally positive (plus half the posts aren't ads).
Honestly it feels like Twitter did 10 years ago.

  • This really reminds me of season 3 of Blackadder

  • Something tells me there will be a new prison complex built in the area in the next few years

  • There was a big outrage in the music production community a few months ago when Waves, one of the most popular plug-in companies, announced they'd be switching to a subscription-only model. That meant you could no longer outright buy and own their plugins, you had to pay for a monthly subscription. This pissed everyone off so much that Waves decided not to go forward with it lol.
I guess the lesson is: make your opinion clear to these greedy companies, vote with your wallet and maybe we can make them become less shitty. They will always do what makes them the most amount of money.

  • Scientology was deemed as a cult in the early days. L.Ron Hubbard spent much of the 50s and 60s sailing around the Mediterranean with his own fleet of ships. Later they started fighting hard against the US government, going so far as to infiltrate several government buildings and destroying all documents the government had on them. Look up "Operation Snow White" if you don't believe me.
Scientology reached tax-excempt status in 1993. My guess is they've fought dirty to get to that place, they probably have some inside-men in the government or they some have dirt on certain congressmen.

  • I've been thinking a real-time fantasy RPG could be super interesting. Like there's a huge battle that takes place on, say, day 3 or something, and if you're not there on that day then you just miss it.
