  • For one, it handles account switching much more smoothly than most apps I've tried.

While viewing a post, commenting, searching, or posting, you can choose your originating instance from a drop-down. Most other apps have to reload your feed and/or relaunch.

It's been really helpful for me whenever an instance is bogged down or acting funny, and I can just hop over without losing my place.

  • Yeah, the free apps have really raised the bar. I think there's a lot of passion out there for the fediverse and non-corporate social media.

I haven't tried Voyager yet, but it sounds like I should give it a shot!

  • Sync looks super clean and is probably a fantastic app, but I'm just a little put off by the data privacy. It's like a month or so in the fediverse has spoiled me, and I can't go back to being a product.

  • Ads and data collection are too much for me. Sticking with Liftoff for now.

  • Yeah, I saw this too when I went to download, and this bothers me a little bit. None of the other Lemmy apps I use collect my data.

Is this decision set in stone?

  • I feel like I've seen this title many times over the years.

  • Movies make it seem like it's some magical land of partying and having life-changing experiences every week, but I think the average person just goes to class and goes home.

  • I don't trust it not to break.

    Also they're wildly expensive.

  • I'm personally loving how much Trek is on Lemmy. There's even a star trek based instance.

  • Yeah, otherwise it would be called "heavy".

  • Yeah, 70 is too young.

I think most people imagine themselves living until 90-100. Sadly there aren't any guarantees in life.

  • This isn't uncommon now, and it's sad. Social media algorithms pushing doom and gloom for clicks are scaring people out of living their lives.

The whole thing feels very similar to how Fox News scares old people for viewers, except maybe less intentional.

  • I'm going to take this moment to intentionally appreciate not having a headache. Thanks.

  • I see this all the time on social media, and it's frustrating. I don't want to dampen anyone's passion for combating climate change (because I agree!), but it's like a feedback loop for rhetoric that gets more and more extreme.

    Something that starts out as:

"There was a wildfire in _____. This could be part of a larger trend related to climate change."

    Turns into:

"This fire was caused directly by climate change."

    Turns into:

"The world is on fire! Take shelter!"

    Turns into:

"Don't plan for the future. Don't have children. Move somewhere cold and start prepping for the apocalypse."

You can literally watch this same process happen with every issue that gets traction on social media or cable news. Then one side looks at the most extreme comments from the other side and easily dismisses the whole thing.
