  • Sarcastic humor aside, migratory agricultural work is a thing in the US. Some of my friends did it back in the 80's. Live in a tent on site, earn by how much you pick, save money because no rent and no place to spend. No federal taxes. Blueberries here, apples there, travel to where the crops need picking. Clean fish in Alaska or work on the boats.

  • A large magnet. I bought it on a whim ~20 years ago for $20 (still online for same price). I got it on a whim while buying gifts from an educational toy website. It comes in handy whenever I drop something small that ferrous or just need it to hold onto things.

  • I put on sun screen every morning to ward off basal cell skin cancer. It sucks but it's cheaper than going to the dermatologist to have basal cell skin cancer removed. The worst part is getting it in my eyes. On the plus side, the splotchy age spots on my temples have disappeared

  • I am friends with a few guys that grew up together in a middle class white town. When they would get together and party they'd call each other awful words. I don't think they're racist or homophobic, the slurs they called each other were a sign of how close they are

  • I had a Radio Shack computer in the early 80's. When I sent in the warranty card, my address ended up on nerd mailing lists. Compuserve was the only public ISP and access cost $7 and hour IIRC plus it was a long distance call around 50 cents a minute (ask your grandparents). I was able to access the internet for free at public libraries. Had no idea what I was doing but managed to see weather predictions and access Nexus which was a digitized database of periodicals (magazines).

  • Set aside a cardboard box for stuff you haven't used in years but you'd hate to throw away because it's still useful. When the box fills up, drop it off at the thrift store and get another box

  • I'll never forget being around 12 years old and hearing my dad address another adult by Mr+surname. It was Mr Palmer who organized the little league I grew up playing in and my dad coached. In school we were forced to address teachers and staff as Ms, Mrs or Mr but at that instance I realized treating others with respect is a choice
