  • The only problem I’ve had was the Mac not going asleep properly, and immediately waking up. But that’s something I encountered on other distros including Mint also.

    Found a fix for it.

Ctrl key hasn’t been a problem. Often on many distros the old hybrid Nvidia graphics and the old Broadcom card were both problems. But ok on Mint and EOS.

  • I didn’t buy an aeropress for years as I had a coffee machine and was like, surely that’s better.

But finally got one, and my god. The simplicity. The ease of cleaning. The nice coffee.

It’s basically my sole way of making coffee now, despite more pricey alternatives at my disposal.

  • After resisting at first, I started listening to the RDR1 soundtrack again recently and then the nostalgia became so strong I just had to buy it. I bought the Switch cartridge from Amazon for £30 a few days ago.

Is it a fair price? Not really. Is it a game I don’t expect a heavy discount on any time soon because it’s Rockstar? Yes. Am I enjoying playing again, at way higher resolution and clarity than it ever was on PS3? Absolutely.

It’s actually a better port than I was expecting, and much more of an upgrade than I expected from PS3.

  • Wanted to just chip in and agree that EndeavourOS deserves enormous praise for how much it gets up and running for you straight off the bat.

I run Linux on a 2012 MacBook Pro, more as a hobby than as my main computer.

It’s about the only distro that actually near-enough just works on that particular Mac at this point, with Linux Mint a close second. If I install it from the live image then change my network settings to use WPA 2 security rather than WPA 3 then I have a fully working computer.

Most distros fail to even boot to a working live image on that Mac. And if they do, then I can’t for the life of me get the WiFi working after that.

Being “terminal centric” scared me off at first, but I finally realised how little you actually need to know to install software and keep it updated once you’re up and running.

    It’s an amazing distro.

    • The Farthest (about NASA’s Voyager missions)
    • Hurt Locker Hero / The Deminer (about Fakhir Berwari, a bomb disposal expert who disarmed thousands of landmines in Iraq with just a pocket knife and a pair of wire clippers)
    • The Devil We Know (tells the story of DuPont’s decades-long cover-up of the harm caused by chemicals used to make its popular non-stick Teflon products)

All three are very good, very moving documentaries.

  • Ghostbusters:

    • Back off man - I’m a scientist
    • Listen! You smell something?
    • What about the Twinkie?
    • Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!
    • Yes it’s true, this man has no dick
    • Ok, so… she’s a dog
    • When someone asks you if you’re a god, you say yes!
    • Aim for the flat top!
    • Cross the streams

    …and much much more

Next stage of the Linux journey, from Mint to Endeavour. But feeling Gruvbox vibes more than the default theming.

What were your (now retro, but not at the time) gaming wow moments?

I'm still pretty useless with Linux, but I'm trying to learn
