  • The NDP (and us) need a left-left of centre to draw in those who believe in a social democracy and will fight tooth and nail for it.

That would preclude having anyone like Jack, who had moved the party closer to centre before his death.

  • When I was a young teen I lived on the street for a time. I often thought about getting a knife for defense, but realized I didn't know how to use it properly ... or what someone could do to me if they got a hold of the knife.

All weapons should be respected for the damage they can do, both to the victim and the attacker.

  • Private equity lies at the heart of the Bay’s collapse. In 2008, US-based NRDC Equity Partners bought the Bay just as brick-and-mortar retailers began to reckon with the rise of e-commerce. Today the Bay is blaming the pandemic, the US-Canada trade war, and a broader decrease in department store traffic for its decline — but sharper eyes see through the excuses. Before the closure, and after the Bay’s private equity capture, experts were noting a “lack of investment” in the retail stores themselves. One professor went so far as to call the Bay’s purchase by NRDC “the point at which the company began its slow death.”

Private equity is capitalism's version of a serial killer. Governments should be regulating it but they won't since too many politicians have been bought out.

  • Both of those words are used synonymously. Never mind you have to take into account that eradicating screwworms for 60+ years was about as good as it could get ... especially considering that in the 60s nobody knew about global warming and the migratory effect it would have on pests and diseases.

  • That's fair. But Japan is harvesting fin whales that are second in size to the blue whale. Those whales are facing a huge proplem with overhunting.

The Faroes hunt is for pilot whales and dolphins which are not facing as an extreme population degradation.

  • Same thing happened to Thunder Bay's hospital. Built on the Fort William flood plain, on what was marsh at the time, it didn't take long for the slabs to start shifting. There were safety cones all over the place warning people to watch their step.

  • They did. It's in the article and the summary above.

Screwworms were eradicated from the U.S. in the 1960s when researchers began releasing massive numbers of sterilized male screwworm flies who mate with wild female screwworms to produce infertile eggs.
