  • Sounds like he's hoping thugs will show up and scare some people into not voting in states he'd probably have lost?

  • EA, Ubisoft and Blizzard are kind of on my soft-blacklist, if that counts. My greylist, I guess you could say. I can't say 100% I'll not give them money in future, but I don't want to. And they make it so easy to boycott them because they aren't making anything I give a shit about.

  • This doesn't super surprise me. I own a Tobii 5 eye tracker. Brilliant piece of tech, but it infuriates me that the one and only way to get the drivers and software for it is to plug it in and let the MS store just install them for you.

  • God what a dystopian future. But you may be right, even for single player games.

  • I really like this one, because there's two jokes in it. One is that our pattern seeking brain allowed us to study evolution, our genome, etc. And the other is the Loss pattern meme, which I didn't even notice at first.

  • Welcome :)

It was pretty common to hear people talk about it for a span of about 10-20 years in Australia. For as long as I can remember every bank gave you a card that was not a "true" credit or debit card, but would work in the EFTPOS machines of any domestic store. They were called Redicards, and were basically debit cards you couldn't use online (once internet shopping became a thing), but worked in ATMs, stores etc. Even back in the 00s it was rare to see someone pulling out a cheque book to pay for anything, and now it's basically unheard of. Talking to US friends I get the impression Australia beat them to this level of wide-spread electronic payments, by quite a margin.

This year the Redicard network is shutting down and I just got issued a second Visa debit card by my bank to replace it. End of an era…

  • The vast majority of this stuff should be called "dumb devices", as in "dumb terminal".

  • "Pre-alpha" would be if they hadn't started coding. It's alpha. There's something you can play, it's just buggy and incomplete and thus not beta. Alpha for this long has enough stigma, you don't need to exaggerate like that.

  • Before I kind of blundered unintentionally into going mostly cashless, I'd just get cash out when I went grocery shopping. But thankfully by the time I was in charge of my own money it was pretty rare to need to spend money without the option of paying via EFTPOS.

  • Man I remember when API applied almost exclusively to integrating with software on the same machine, makes me feel old…

  • Gentoo because it's what I know, and I know enough to make it do what I want.

  • It's true, it's even possible they're sitting on it so nobody else can do it. But at the same time I feel like if they felt they could get away with it they'd do it. It's closer to reality than we'd like to think.

  • I think it's Sony that has a patent on a TV that uses a camera and microphone so they can play ads that only stop when you stand up, raise your arms and shout "McDonalds!", for example. Not in Black Mirror, in real life.

  • Okay? But when my Firefox uses Chrome's useragent string, the delay also disappears.

  • It's in a bun, that means it's a fried spaghetti burger. ;)

  • Even if it were a shooter, I've not heard "extraction shooter" applied to a non-pvp game before, yeah.

  • It eggs sequence matter.

  • Okay, but what about people on the fringes? People who want to be able to post about sex positivity, risque artwork, and other stuff that exists in civil society but some people would prefer to pretend didn't.
