  • So, are you implying that the malware wasn’t involved in an attempted attack on critical infrastructure? Or do you seriously think the FBI persuaded a judge to let them go this as a front for doing something worse? Or are you just being edgy for the LOLs?

  • I mean, Apple already gives you the option to collect this type of data using Apple Watch and iPhone - if you want it to. One of the most interesting is gait analysis that can warn you if you are getting a bit wobbly and have increased risk of falling. The already do facial scanning for FaceID (held on-device in the Secure Enclave) and offers the ability to scan the shape of your ears to get the best from it's Atmos audio when wearing headphones. There's never been any suggestion that Apple exfiltrates this stuff for any purpose other than those selected by the user.

  • I don't think you have my vote. The commitee's proposals look reasonable

  • Jokes on you

I don’t think this means what you think it means.

  • Feels like there needs to be a larger central zone for the pedal where the car just maintains speed

  • From the orginal linked reporting, it appears that previously Apple would accept a subpoena subpoena issued by police departments and law enforcement agencies with no judicial oversight. Under the new policy there has to be a court order or a search warrant, both of which have to be approved by a judge.

This feels like a tightening to me. https://techcrunch.com/2023/12/13/apple-push-notifications-government-warrant/

  • Yeh, I don't think I would either. It does feel disrepectful

  • I'm not going to take a pop at them because it is entirely possible that they live in Scotland, are passionate about Scottish independence and has similarly committed friends and family. Likewise, I'm only speaking from personal experience as someone who is English, but has discussed stuff with Scottish friends on occassion.

  • Seems to work very well in most cases.

  • Previously they required a subpoena, now they require a court order. So what was the lie?

  • I have smart radiator valves I use to reduce heating cost. During weekdays the morning when the heating comes on, I know the main living room isn’t going to be used, so the rads turn themselves off, coming on late afternoon, just before the kids get home.

Smart bulbs are only really used while we are away on holiday, to simulate people being in.

I have solar panels, batteries and am on sn agile electricity tariff that changes every 30 minutes with 24 notice. Automations make sure the batteries are charged up ahead of any peak rate. Occasionally energy prices go negative if there is an excess of wind power on the grid. At that point my immersion heater starts heating water in my hot water tank, saving gas and making me money.

  • Forced air is vanishingly rare in the UK, because air conditioning is vanishingly rare as a built in system in residential housing. Yes ours use direct heat exchangers

  • So what it is it you don't like about the iPhone 12 mini. The only thing that wasn't very good about it was battery life (which is why I bought the 13 Mini (upgrading from a 7). Or are you, you know - just here for the lols?

  • OK, I'll bite. Why do you think I'm brainwashed. Please be specific.

  • It's more an article about the barriers that the industry needs to sort out, I think

  • Not really. Since the radiators operate at a substantially lower temperature, you may well have to replace them - you need larger, more efficient radiators than may be typical with gas-fired systems

  • It would certainly be shorted. I don't think it would be improved. Seriously, if you are facing crushing depression at the moment please do call https://www.samaritans.org - a conversation really can help. Thinking of you.
