  • I replied to someone from NL and they said they got .21 Euro per km. I asked if they essentially got a raise if they moved further away. This sounds all ridiculous. If it costs $X to commute, then just negotiate a salary that is $X much more per year. I'll figure out how I get to world.

  • And if you move? Do you essentially get a raise?

This system seems fraught with errors and corruption, quite frankly, amd seems like it would be infinitely easier to just pay the person a better salary to compensate and let them figure it out.

  • I asked that question rhetorically. I was actually going to list a bunch of other questions as well to show how difficult this could turn out being, showing how stupid the idea is. What if one person is 15 miles away but no car, versus someone 40 miles away with a car? Or 2 people are the same distance away but one drives and the other doesn't? Do they get the same amount? What if someone moves further away... does that mean they get a raise?

  • This is idiotic. No one compensates employees for their commute.

So many ridiculous variables that would need to be factored in and so much room for abuse. Are they going to be compensated based on distance or time?

  • These are the kind of games that Democrats usually fall for, rather than play. It is sooo nice to see that not all Democrats are a bunch of fucken pussies and that Fetterman is willing to mess with Republicans in this way.

  • That's "Starve the Beast" politics.

Everyone should know what this is and how and why it is done.

In short, Republicans want to starve a department of funding to a level below which they can not properly function. Then they can claim that agency isn't doing it's job, so we might as well cut it altogether. They are trying to set up these departments and programs to fail and can come in and claim they are saving taxpayers money. What they are really doing is making it easier for corporations and the ultra rich to pollute or side-step their tax obligations. Kind of hard to claim someone is a tax cheat if there isn't an IRS to audit them. Same with the EPA, Amtrak, USPS, DoEducation, and a host of other departments.

Once again, we can thank Reagan for this mess.

  • And can you blame them? You get attacked from all sides if you enter the politics as a Democrat. You'll obviously get attacked by Republicans, but you also get attacked by people on the Left as well. On the other hand, elected Republicans, to a large degree, don't get attacked by their own people, and lord knows that Democrats rarely go on the offensive, so they'll rarely attack their Republican opponents.

  • If there is something you can always count on is Democrats doing a terrible job at marketing their ideas.

I agree, calling this an Apollo-like project would be a good idea. Republicans are immediately triggered by terms like "New Deal" so it will turn them off. I have always find it interesting that Democrats don't lean on the fact that many Republicans are "outdoorsmen". They like to hunt and fish and stuff like that. You can't fish in polluted waters. Hunting is rather tough if we've chopped down all the trees. There is a common ground here. Why the fuck aren't Democrats leaning on that common ground? When you sell environmental initiatives, why not try to get the support from the outdoorsmen of the Republican party? They might not be doing it for the same reasons as the Democrats, but the end result is the important part.

When it comes to stuff like this, I am always reminded of a former co-worker of mine. He would guzzle the Fox News propaganda. Total Trump nutjob. But guess what, the dude has had solar panels in his house for years. He wasn't doing it for the environmental benefits but rather because he was a cheapskate. But the reason WHY he got them was immaterial, he had them when so many left-leaning people didn't. What it comes down to it is that you need to know you audience. Know what motivates them and focus your marketing to that to find a common ground.
