That's still only registered voters. Per your own post, over HALF of the total population isn't being counted here. Yes, some are too young or ineligible for some other reason, but there are still literally millions of people who simply never bothered to register who are sitting out these elections.

All these stupid polls are biased to show a certain perspective.... what's next, we'll have a poll that says 89.2% of Americans want free money?! No Way!1!!

A lot of the same things you mention about game development are also apparent in open source software which is why it is usually so terrible. Someone that can program some complicated visuals for a 3D modeling program does not mean that same person actually does 3D modeling, which is why the interface for so many open source programs are abysmal.

Along with this, just because you are going to a shoreline restaurant, doesn't mean you are getting fresh seafood. The same frozen fish that gets deep fried in that quaint shore town is the same frozen fish served 6 hours inland.

No other place on earth has more tornadoes (over 200 MPH/320 KPH air speeds) than the US.

Europe gets about 200 to 300 a year.

The US gets about 1200.

Europe gets about 2 hurricanes each year (wind speeds of about 130 MPH/210 KPH).

The US gets about 12 each year.

If you think any regular home structure can survive a direct 200 MPH hit, you are delirious. And for most other storms, having a structure that has some level of flexibility is far superior to some brittle structure made of brick or concrete that doesn't flex. That wood structure will take a hit and bounce back, while brick, clay or concrete will crack and collapse. Neither is a great situation, but we also have vast forests to cut down for lumber, while Europe, not so much.

The only people bringing up reparations are those who want to spoil the election for Biden. Mostly foreign actors pretending to be soooo progressive that their liberal guilt pushes them to want to give out reparations.

If Democrats were smart, they'd put a kibosh on this idea immediately.

A bunch of people who know fuck-all about the subject matter at hand (in this case construction), and then sprinkle in the usual anti-American bias that flavors a large number of posts on this site. The only thing missing seems to be something dealing with Linux or some pro-commie spin.

Tell me you know nothing about construction without telling me you know nothing about construction.

And yet they willingly vote against unionization. It's almost as if they know something.

You might want to step out of this conversation if you think UAW members have ever been underpaid. Union workers for GM, Ford and Chrysler had been paid a good 30 to 50% (or more) more than autoworkers for Japanese and German carmakers operating plants in the US.

GM just offered them a 16% raise. This is for a group of people who are already the best paid workers in their field.

This is one of the biggest opportunities in recent years for a new social media platform to come up and establish itself and Lemmy seems to be totally squandering the opportunity. The fact that the active user count is dropping so fast, should be very worrying.

I think a lot of it has been mentioned by @rr7@lemmy.world, but it isn't just what is here, but also what isn't there. Namely the lack of posts in communities outside a handful of political ones. Social media should be some form of conversation and yet if you go to lots of the slightly more esoteric communities and there are few posts and even fewer replies to those posts. You'll basically be talking to yourself if you want to talk about cars or the latest gadget or asking for help on some DIY project.

There are like 50,000 active users. That is the metric that matters above all else.

People that make an account and never post (which is where that 400,000 number you are referring to comes from) means next to nothing. If the number of active users continues to decrease, then this site will be dead, regardless of what the user count it.

There is the old cliche that during holiday dinner there is always that one right-wing uncle who never shuts the fuck about politics (these days being during Thanksgiving and how great Trump is). Everyone finds what this uncle is saying is cringe as hell.

Well, that's kind of what Lemmy is becoming, but for the far-left.

If it is in a political community, it is one thing. And to a large degree, I might even agree with most left-of-center views.

But there is an endless stream of edgy pro-commie and similar posts and a dearth of other light-hearted posts to counter balance it. Almost all communities outside the ones listed above get no traffic, so there's no point in trying to start a conversation about cars or DIY projects or electronics. Hell, even the NSFW communities on Lemmy are rather lame.

If you think that having 1/3 of voters sit out an election is a "win", then we've already lost.

Google's phones have had screen issues. There was also some kind of phantom power draw issue in the previous version. Turning a blind eye to quality problems doesn't make them go away.
