  • If it makes you feel better the misinformation and poor reporting is prevalent on both sides. I've been downvoted for asking for links, questioning accuracy of reporting and one sided story telling, citing legal arguments... even saying that they disagree with the red cross assessment of whats ok and not.

War crimes and crimes against humanity don't care about fairness, or feelings, and don't become ok just because you are losing or been attacked first.

  • The fact you believe their is nothing to investigate tells me you have no knowledge of intl conflict, LOAC, Geneva convention, or capable of identifying quality sources and bias.

I cant explain because you are missing soo much content. I suggest you start with the Red Cross on what constitutes war crime, followed by the ICJ Feb report.

  • So I say that there is a massive humanitarian crisis that both sides are responsible for, that evidence is stating neither side has taken steps to help, that actions of both sides need to be investigated, and that there is a massive bias against telling the full story to push agenda.... and you believe I am saying everything is fine.

    Projection much

  • Or just looking at the actual facts.

UN.org lists humanitarian crisis, and a number of steps that both sides must take to reduce suffering.

UNSC vetoed the resolution calling for a ceasefire.

Israeli has broken 28 UN resolutions.

The ICJ report (a beautifully written, well balanced report) calls on Israeli to prevent acts of its forces that can amount to genocide, and calls for conflict to cease so they can be investigated openly and honestly. It also calls on Hamas to release all hostages immediately, stop placing civilians in firing line, and allow aid through, yet only two words discussed from it by most articles is "Israel" and "genocide".

ICJ report also discusses court actions on Israeli defense and justification of acts, including aid being stolen by Hamas for their military use rather than reaching civilians. Dont have an update on these.

UNSC is also being pressed to get Hamas to release all hostages immediately.

Please don't start crap about the whole UN saying it, or that it's all one-sided. This is exactly why both sides of a story need to come out, why reporters need to discuss facts not opinion, and why the inherent bias in lemmy.world is soo concerning. Does Israel have alot to answer for - absolutely. But the facts are being lost in the propaganda.

Interestingly, I discussed in another comment what I believed should be done with both Israeli and Palestinian militants that are committing war crime/ crime against humanity respectively, and my comment was deleted for inciting violence. People are happy to harp on about war crime, but discussing the historical punishment for it (that should absolutely apply here as well) is too much.

  • Yup, and lemmy is massively biased against Israel- look at the numbers of democracynow and Middle East Eye articles that come up here.

I've literally been downvoted because I questioned two paragraph articles that have generic names and no author.

  • While the narrative pushes towards anti-isralei there is also a significant chance of fact behind this.

I will happily call out misinformation and bias (not naming any democracynow.org or middle east eye that dominate lemmy posts in particular) but the information discussed here does also play a part in the wider picture. Propaganda goes both ways but what are the clear facts of the issue.

  • I support Israel right to defend itself.

But seriously, fucking how. Even the most die hard Israeli supporters know Palestinians are starving, that civilians suffering happens in modern warfare, that hamas has been hiding in critical infrastructure that has been destroyed to root them out, and no matter who started what Palestine civilians are paying the cost.
