  • Starfield will inevitably have a few (or quite a few) bugs at first, and won’t have even one expansion pack for a while. If you have to put it off for a bit, you won’t be missing much.

  • Now that the game is polished, and has a surprising amount of expansion packs, I would recommend going for it!

  • How is that even possible?

I wonder if they somehow have that technology, or just say they do in order to intimidate people.

  • That’s very, very cool!

I think I’ve read a story or two like this before - where a creature once thought extinct is found again. Does anyone know about how many times or how frequently this has happened?

  • I’m not unaware, but I got too worked up and simply forgot. It amounts to the same thing, though. Whoops.

You make a good point. Corruption is a good reason to think carefully about any requests. There’s no use in a country donating billions of dollars worth of military hardware unless that hardware actually makes it to the front lines.

  • I apologize for offending you with my positivity and self-deprecating humor. I didn’t realize I was speaking to a god. Living among us fallible humans must be frustrating for you.

  • In my opinion, it’s hard to justify because it’s bullshit. Problems remain unsolved because the will isn’t there, not because we can’t afford it. Anyone who says, for example, that American public schools are underfunded because of our Ukraine policy will (and should) be laughed out of the room.

  • True, but I’m not just talking about jets. I’m talking about ALL weapons, like rockets and such. There’s been resistance over a lot of things.

  • If it works for you and you’re happy with it, then ignore the haters (like me) and enjoy! 👍

  • Grrr. Damn geopolitics. I appreciate the response, though!

  • Other than cost, I haven’t understood the hesitancy to give Ukraine all the weapons they ask for, immediately.

When war breaks out, it means diplomacy has failed. It only makes sense to no longer consider diplomacy a major factor when making wartime decisions - especially when providing support to a country that’s defending itself from an unprovoked invasion, which is a violation of international law. Half measures only prolong the war, which ultimately makes it more expensive for supporting countries. For Ukraine, civilians and soldiers are dying every day.

This war should have ended by now. I’m glad that most of the world is condemning Putin, but we’re not doing enough.

  • Good point. I was assuming that “smart home” integration would require an internet connection, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Thank you for clarifying that!

  • I have yet to see a “smart home” feature that’s worth the potential problems, let alone the cost.

Yeah, a well-integrated smart home can do some pretty cool stuff, but it also means putting my trust in corporations even more than I already have to. Plus, I’ll have to worry about each major appliance I own possibly being bricked due to a buggy software update or a malicious hacker.

Keep my home nice and dumb. Thanks.

  • What I actually said was

Politics are often frustrating, stressful, and depressing.

As you know, the difference between “often” and “always” can be very important.

Selectively ignoring the meaning of words and then arguing based on that is a tired, old tactic many of us have encountered before. I have no reason to believe that’s what you’re doing, but I thought you should know how it looks. People may think that you’re trolling. Please be careful.

  • Politics are often frustrating, stressful, and depressing. Social issues are extremely important to me, but my own mental health has to come first. I want the world to be a progressive, empathetic place. The news constantly reminds me that it isn’t. That gets overwhelming, and sometimes I need a break.

Additionally, different people use social media for different things. Some people specifically want news, current events, and political discussion. Some people just want to take a break from the world, look at pictures of cats, and talk about pop culture.

Then there are people who “hate politics” because discussing politics can bring out the worst in others - or they know it will bring out the worst in themselves. That doesn’t even have to mean that there are problematic opinions involved. They just think that they (or the other person) might get too emotional or pedantic to have a reasonable discussion, so they avoid the situation altogether.

I don’t think it’s fair to make assumptions about someone simply because they want to avoid politics.

  • I think Narwhal is, but I don’t remember the details. Ironically, that’s the app I used to use, but the fact that they caved in and are cooperating with reddit just makes it an even less appealing option.

  • CBS Studios has remained committed to finding a new distributor for the show and is finishing postproduction work on the new episodes.

This is good to hear. Their optimism is encouraging.

I wish the first season was still streaming somewhere.

  • It can seem authoritarian or an overreaction of you don’t know why the decision was made.

Once a critic learns that defederating was a last-choice decision reluctantly made because of inadequate mod tools and a small, overwhelmed staff, things make more sense. If they still want to complain after that, I just walk away. Sometimes people have already decided to be angry regardless of what the facts are, and debate never helps in those situations.
