The moment your elderly mom has a stroke on the toilet, you'll look back at all the times you got the door in your face and be grateful. What a tiny price to pay for the life of your mother.
Depending on your physical strength, you'll stop feeling hungry after 2-3 days. You'll start to give off a body odor at around day 4, when you're in full ketosis. After a week, you stop losing much water, mostly body fat. If you continue this regimen for more than 4 days, you'll suffer refeeding syndrome If you break the fast with normal food, which can have severe consequences, so you better educate yourself before you try it.
All in all though, people fasted for weeks thousands of years ago, and you'll be under supervision (unless you're crazy), so you'll be just fine.
People have been fasting for way longer than a week without starving. Starvation doesn't happen voluntarily, and it doesn't happen under the eyes of a doctor.
If your choices are living with the consequences of obesity and a week of controlled ketosis, it's on you to decide which way to take.
Comparing a one week fast with starvation seems hyperbolic, to say the least.
Still, farting in public is not "I'm aware strangers don't care about me anyway". It's "I don't care about strangers". I'm in my late-40s and would like to think I have manners.
I check cover and blurb, maybe see if there are other books by the author, and give it a chance.
1000 reviews? Nah. I like to read new authors with fresh ideas.
