  • Every other "influencer" I happen to come across online has become one of these people. It's not looking good.

  • who is the centermost centrist from your pov? left and right means nothing without reference points. It's like saying cold and hot instead of using specific temperatures like boiling point and freezing point.

And this is without saying that left-right is a 1D projection of a sum of positions in many dimensions.

  • But isn't most of that client-side processing? Can't I request a vanilla generic page and once it is in my browser to process it to shape it into the window size and extensions I want? Even if it is an adblocker: serve me the ad, I'll block it internally. But I suppose that for dynamic pages with js requests this would become hard to do.

  • It is starting to become a risk to go out to do anything without taking ID these days. A Kafkian nightmare...might as well staple it to your ear, like cattle :/

  • Ok, he is stupid, but he has figured some things out and perfected ways to move in the world through trial and error with money and time.

  • I don't think tramp knows much about anything at all, he just plays his role, but the blueprint they are "plagiarizing" from history books must be Stephen Miller's or Bannon's or some Heritage Foundation subgroup. But he may be vaguely aware of the power he could have if he ignores all rules (what a genius) and everyone is too afraid to stop him.

  • Did he mean "from other tribes" as in from elsewhere in the world, far enough that their culture is not as concerned with family names as theirs?

  • Dude's backed by trump, Erdogan and Saudis, did you expect him to be liberal?

  • Iran's busy in the bunk...er...cellar with something right now, they'll be back to argue once they're done down there...

  • People act like every lie is just a flesh wound, but if you stab the body of the truth every day, every day will be worse than the previous one.

  • In China, especially after the rise of Chinese nationalism in the 1920s,[citation needed] the treaty has been denounced as an unequal treaty.[7]

In September 2024, the President of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Lai Ching-te claimed that if China's claims on Taiwan are about territorial integrity then it should also take back land from Russia signed over by the last Chinese dynasty in the 19th century, mentioning the treaty.[8]

  • So this is

    a) not going to change anything

    b) not something that could have been used in thousands of other counties at scale to change the final result

  • Is she trying to frame Mexico as "little green men"ing LA to see if it sticks? (likely to succeed, because maga shortcircuits when it sees a Mexican flag, protesting, on US soil)

  • What I've learned over time is that it brings out the worst in us, because unlike a live meeting, where there is a danger that you may be ostracized or beaten up, online people have a much less controlled environment for speech. Even the effort of showing up or printing/broadcasting an opinion was reduced to 0.

And since the user isn't forced to pass a driving exam for how to behave and different communities have different rules, values and objectives, it is easy to feel a contrast without traveling very far, which triggers polarization/victimization rather than an instinct to adapt and grow.

e.g. normies wouldn't just stumble into an anarchist meeting in real life and start throwing up a fuss, but online it can happen all the time without censorship moderation.

And all of this before even considering hostile actors that generate, propagate, amplify and target misinformation and disinformation.
