  • Capcom was guilty of this 10-15 years ago with the infamous "Capcom test" where they would release a small project or re-release a game in a franchise they were floating around ideas for a new entry in, and if the small game or re-release didn't sell basically like a new AAA game, the franchise didn't get the new entry. This was part of how the company was basically reduced to only Resident Evil and Street Fighter for a time. Fortunately they eventually snapped out of it, probably when they realized you can't make the kind of money you used to make when you're effectively killing off all but two of your IPs due to stupid sales expectations. Square Enix will probably hit that point eventually as well.

  • But that's how what I mentioned happens - the vocal users decide that anything that disagrees with them is that "sewage" or "poison", even if it is legitimate, and then you end up with that echo chamber situation. I would think that proper moderation of political communities would ensure that polite, good-faith argument, regardless of the political leaning of the view, would be allowed, but that's not how it often happens because of how moderators and vocal users define what good faith argument is, mostly based on whether the argument agrees with their own view.

  • The one problem is, specifically with this type of conversation, anyone even in the center is not welcome in the conversation because the echo chamber is so strong that anything even in the center is instantly labeled "misinformation". Who decides what the difference between "opinion I disagree with" and "misinformation" is? Far too often it's left to a person or group, be it on the left or the right, that holds that anything they or the most vocal political users disagree with is "dangerous misinformation". And I tend to notice that unless it's a specific right-wing instance like explodingheads, anything that's not on the far left is either down voted to oblivion or outright removed and anyone who posts or says anything positive about it is effectively driven out, including people who argue such things in good faith. That tends to lead to the creation of such instances as explodingheads and attitudes like the people who reside there.

  • Because Matt loves the game, and really, it's nowhere near the worst fighting game, especially for the N64, and while it's not GOOD, it may not even be considered particularly bad. He's done at least one playthrough video if you want to see him talk about it though.

  • I like the more platformer style rogue-lites, a couple favorites that haven't been mentioned yet are 20XX (rogue-lite tribute/spiritual successor to Mega Man X) and Rogue Legacy (first rogue-lite I ever played, perhaps not as hard as others). For top-down ones I had a bit of fun with Wizard of Legend as well. Never have beaten a roguelike/-lite, but I've gotten a decent way into each of the above.

  • My thought too. My guess is the early 2024 date is for an announcement for a late/holiday 2024 release, if there is anything actually going on soon. Announcing late this year for an early-year launch makes little sense from a marketing and timing standpoint. You're both cutting the pre-launch buildup awfully close for the comfort of publishers, consumers and retailers, and also potentially screwing up your holiday sales window for this year since people will likely want to hold out for the new console rather than invest in the late-year releases, which then also screws with third parties' bottom line at a critical sales point in the year. If there really is a planned early 2024 release date for this thing, the earlier the announcement, the better at this point.

  • Still side questing/shrine hunting in TotK. Didn't play as much as usual this week, it's been a bit busy preparing for a vacation I'm taking next week, so I probably won't play much next week either. Any tips on how to beat lynels?

  • I remember replaying Aladdin on the Genesis over and over growing up. I even have an ancient Let's Play up on YouTube I made 10 whole years ago already, wow. But Lion King, that's a tough one. Managed to get to the first adult Simba level, forget which it is exactly, but couldn't get past that.

  • I've used it for a week now too. Specifically for sleep, it's good for tracking how much and how deep your sleep is each night, and for encouraging that healthy 8-hour interval we are supposed to get. A couple challenges I see are ensuring the data is accurate coming from a basic mobile phone app (this is no replacement for an actual clinical sleep study), the privacy concern that I would want to make sure the data, especially the sound recording, is absolutely private to me, and the pitfall that it may encourage sleeping as much as possible, perhaps to unhealthy levels, to encourage users to fill that sleep Dex.

  • The "harm"? Litigation $$$ paid to parents of 10 year olds playing Cyberpunk, all it is, really. ESRB covering their butts because they know the rating system is, and always has been, as useless as the parental advisory stickers on CD cases. Parents don't know it exists, retailers don't care as long as they get their money, and devs/publishers only care about it as something to point to in order to avoid censorship while they blatantly market games like Cyberpunk to 10 year olds knowing that parents will buy it for them if the kid nags them enough or the kids themselves will buy it from some teenager working at GameStop who's getting paid too little to care, or they'll just lie about their age on Steam and use their parents' credit card to buy it. This is just about the worst way to cover their butts, though.
