  • Thank you for the link, I'm definitely sharing this with my friends

  • Going to peaceful protests are useful because it can help you meet some more like-minded folks.

Not to mention sometimes a protest starts peaceful and then goes to shit.

  • This so much!

Leave all Bluetooth devices at home as well as they have unique IDs that can be tied back to you as well.

And if you're worried about your stereo you can always pull the fuse so it gets no power then put the fuse back when you get home.

Need directions? Print them and DO NOT LOSE THE PAPER!

  • Hitting the sun is surprisingly difficult

Launching into deep space knowing that they'll never enter another star system on the otherhand...

  • With how things have been going lately I'm fully expecting to see political opposition being jailed or worse by 2026 if we can't stop this madness before then.

Not to mention the amount of election shenanigans that are going to happen with trump's admin all up in the FEC's business.

  • Literally a smash and grab of OUR assets.

To everyone reading this comment: call AND email your reps, also find local protest. I recommend Indivisible and they likely have a local group in your area.

I've already been to one in my area with them and hundreds of people showed up. There were 2 in my area that day, 1 on each side of the metro area (technically 2 cities that smashed together and are in 2 different states) the larger area had over a thousand show up. We both made the local news and got a HUGE influx of more people involved.

  • I'd love to be able to just go to my post and see a list of the people who have shared my stuff and links to their shared posts.

For example: 3 people share one of my posts, on the post I click the spot thatvsays how many times it's been shared, and I can see the posts they made by sharing mine.

I hope that makes sense? IDK if it did I'm tired AF right now lol

  • Exactly!

Compartmentalizing your online presence is always a good thing.

  • On the browser version of Pixelfed there's a setting you can get to from your profile page that let's you enable "reblogs" being visible in your homefeed. (It's kinda vague on what that means though)

I couldn't find it on the official mobile app.

Honestly the official mobile app I can't see comments on my posts either.

I'd say the official mobile app needs a little TLC.

  • The beauty of this kind of platform (Lemmy) is you can leave one instance that has affiliations you don't like and move to one that has affiliations you like.

For example I have alts on other instances that aren't federated the same so particular instances I see as quite problematic I never see their comments or posts. It makes the whole thing more pleasant.

There's also having multiple accounts that are focused on different things, like one that's focused on memes, one that's focused on news, one that's focused on hobby things, so that you can keep them all separated and isolated from each other. That way, if the account you have for news is going to be particularly in a knee-deep-of-dread situation (like political content) afterwards you can switch to your hobby account and not see that content until you're ready again.

IMO it's good for your mental health as you can take breaks from the dread.

  • Exactly

As the meme goes, "The worst person you know made a great point." Except it's that they did something good.

Doesn't change them being a shitty person of course but at least they did something good.

Fuck PewDiePie, but at least this is likely to grow the community a lot soon.

  • That makes sense, it's been updated a lot since that previous statement.

  • It's a fairly common (though fairly uncommon nowadays) trope from older video games (often RPGs) where you end up in a game over state and then you'd be asked if you want to continue (from your last save usually)

TVTropes link talking about it and similar tropes.

  • Beyond reporting and blocking I'll usually take a break or depending on the amount of toxic people I may just leave the platform altogether.

If you find yourself surrounded by assholes it may best just to leave and find a new spot.

  • Because why make less money when you can make more money

  • Hell, I'm surprised the publishers aren't up in arms about it.

    Amazon is changing copyrighted works.

  • Funnily enough I've had to block the updates for my WiFi card in my Windows PC for years now as if it updates it just does Bluescreen loops until I boot into safe mode with out networking and remove the driver.

    It blows.

Good news is that Linux handles that card just fine.
