  • Today, yes, I agree. It's really hard to compete with them anymore. But 15 years ago when everyone was rushing to capture the market, there were many opportunities to do so. Steam and valve were never infallible, but at least they took feedback and stayed consistent, unlike their competitors.

  • They are a monopoly because they've had the best product on the market consistently for 15 years. There used to be huge resistance to them and their drm from gamers, but they have shown over many years that they are trustworthy, unlike others that have tried this.

This is not an Apple or Google store situation where proper competition could not exist. They were always up against giants like Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft or more recently Epic.

  • This and the duplication of communities and also the fact that my account is not just a generic, across the verse account, but specific to an instance that can shut down or disaaper and remove all my preferences and post history.

These things were what was confusing when I joined and what I still think are the biggest issues with this platform. The fact that I hypothetically look up reddit alternative, find Lemmy, join the first one that shows up in the results without knowing any better, look up communities and there's like 5 of the same ones or none because it's defederated from others, the instance blocks NSFW communities because they are prudes, is blocked by others for various reasons, and then they could shutdown a week later removing my account is just insane user experience tbh.

  • That's pretty much the idea behind the scrum events, they should reduce the need for other meetings. As a note the weekly stand-up and 1:1 that show up in the picture are not scrum events.

Thing is, the scrum guide is pretty clear that if you don't follow the whole thing, you shouldn't call it scrum and you're on your own. It can still work, but only if the mindset is right and people involved know what they are trying to do with it. Which most times is not the case.

  • Most people in corporate have no fucking idea what they are doing and a good setup will have these meetings focus everyone on the same thing and making sure they are progressing. This setup may not be useful for coding untestable and undocumented code in your basement, but it's very useful in big companies. Unfortunately there are also many twats that abuse this in order to make themselves look useful so it's very easy to end up in a broken system if no one is keeping an eye out for this.

  • Yes. The original comics are just that lame and the edits retain the lameness. Which is unfortunate because it's one of the only things consistently being uploaded to this community and is motivating me to block it from my feed.

  • If your family would be upset to lose you, I imagine they love you and they would be upset no matter the way it happens. You might be trapped now, but life is long and full of opportunities. Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Seek help, go to therapy, work on yourself and grab life by the balls. This humble stranger on the internet believes in you.

  • The cap doesn't stay where you put it, usually is still a bit wet from the liquid and that drips on your face when you take a sip. If you have facial hair, you have to navigate your way around the cap as well.

I'm not against the idea in principle, but the implementations have ranged from mildly irritating to unusable for me.

  • This is on me for sure that I've never seen anyone be faster using a CLI compared to a GUI especially for basic operations which is what most of us do 95% of the time. I know there are specific cases where a command just does it better/easier but for me that's not the case for everyday stuff.

  • Tried the iPad pro 2 years ago because everyone raved about how good and amazing it is. I gave it a good 6 months try before I concluded it was a pile of junk. Sure it's powerful, but any serious multitasking and customization is only possible with jalbreaking or not at all. Dumped it and went to the Samsung tab S7 plus. Couldn't be happier. Does everything the iPad does but is also competent and friendly to the user's wishes.

  • Support for HDR, variable refresh rate, direct draw and battery improvements sound like a very good list to have, other than the overall leaner build. You personally not caring about it doesn't change the fact that it's good to not stagnate when it comes to things like this.
