I'm not sure if SSDs were really cheaper before. RIght now, I'm seeing about $0.043-$0.05/GB. From what I recall, that's about the same or a little better than what we had in 2023.

However, I very much agree that prices should have decreased much further in that time.

SSDs have gotten much cheaper. 10 years ago, they were over $0.50/GB, now they're just over $0.04/GB That's over 12 times cheaper.

You can get a 2tb ssd for $85. 10 years ago a 2tb ssd would've been super expensive and very boogie.

Many Microsoft employees are on Visas. So they can't really risk losing their jobs as they'd risk deportation. I suspect this is one of the reasons why big tech companies hire so many workers on visas tbh.

While I do love oled and have an oled display myself, an ips display shouldn't have such bad viewing angles that you notice issues when looking at it straight.

I largely agree with everything you said. One minor correction, algorithms and AI are not the same thing.

Not op, but I have the galaxy fold 3 and it's amazing. I've had it for 3 years and I can't go back to normal phones. And I've heard the same from many others that got their first foldable.

Another big problem imo is also that you effectively lose ownership of your games. Inevitably, servers would be shut down and you wouldn't be able to download the games that you own. And that's if things go well. Some games could always just go away earlier as we've seen on other platforms. However, if you own the disk, then that's that, you can play the game forever.

On steam, the same problem could technically happen, but I trust Steam significantly more. It's very much in their best interest to keep growing their library of games and not stop supporting them. I still have games from 10+ years ago on it and I expect to keep them 10+ years from now.

But it'll also allow you to just carry 2 batteries and swap if needed. Even if you don't want to do that, when your battery ages enough that you can't at all go through a typical day, you can easily change it out yourself to a fresh one to refresh your phone.

I feel like the real problem isn't Lithium-Ion batteries, but specifically non-removable Li-ion batteries. With some devices, non-removable isn't as huge of a deal, but with other items such as headphones, mice, and gamepads, I'd rather have AA batteries than non-removable Li-ion. In the event that a battery dies while using the device, having to tether yourself sucks. Whereas taking 2 seconds to swap the battery is simple and quick.

Now, the best of both worlds is just a removable Li-Ion battery. That way you can charge overnight, and just swap to another battery when it unexpectedly dies. My headset does that and I love it. Similarly, I used to have that with my LG G4 and it was amazing. This combo yields the best convenience and is best for the environment as you don't need to recycle as many batteries or replace the whole product when the non-removable battery starts dying too quickly.
