  • Did you check out the article, because it's most definitely not a good thing. It was created to assist with cybercrime things, like writing malware, crafting emails for phishing attacks. The maker is selling access with a monthly fee to criminals to use it. This was unavoidable though, can't put the tooth paste back into the tube on this one.

  • It sounds like I grew up in the exact same time frame as the video creator! He did such an incredible job, my god I'm envious! On the prevue channel, he even got the way the times scroll up and then push the top column's to more current times! I had forgotten all about that little detail! He must have put insane amount of time into getting this all to work, my hats off to him!

  • This is the application I think I'm most excited about for LLMs. A well trained LLM can correlate and reference more data points than any human could, which would help diagnose weird stuff a human doctor may or may not recognize. Especially if the LLM is kept up to date with cutting edge medical advances.

  • I've read that in WW2 troops would scrawl the little guy peaking over the edge "Killroy" in locations they had just arrived at, and claim it was there when they got there. So yeah, oldest meme in modern history.

  • Damn it, that's insane. I knew they were huge, but I had no idea the scope of their holdings! Someone print out a huge poster of that graphic and show congress or whoever needs to decide that they're faaaaar too large and are negatively impacting many industries.

  • I feel that Disney is very much a bad thing for the entertainment industry. They own so many huge IPs and have proven that they by and large, can't actually make good use of them. Just look at what they did to Star Wars movie wise. It makes me wonder how a monopoly is actually defined.

I wish they'd get broken up into smaller companies to help fix the entertainment industry.

  • I just found out yesterday that I'm a Tech Company, so you're not wrong! But in all seriousness, I love the fact capitalism is supposed to be sink or swim, but apparently a lot of our service industry is only a float due to low wages, and in some industries, pushing cost off to the customer in the form of tipping.

If you can't afford to pay a decent wage, then you shouldn't be in business.

  • I can't disagree with the point of the video, social media sites/apps are really great, until they aren't. It seems like the reasons for "until they aren't" are getting more severe and happen faster, largely propelled by the companies running them getting greedy and shitty.

  • OP's claims being verifiable or not, can we all agree that Meta's interests aren't benevolent toward competing competitors and their technology? The fact that is even a hint of a reason that admins of lemmy.world had a clandestine meeting with Meta would be concerning. OP's logic is sound, and if the lemmy.world admins didn't meet with Meta, they could state as much and dispel the possibility. Or they could entirely lie about it if no NDA was signed, but they haven't responded to that question which is concerning.

If the admins of lemmy.world struck a deal with meta, maybe agreed to a payment, who knows what a deal like that would look like, would you all still feel comfortable using it as your home instance?

  • I respect your right to your opinion but understand the reason why you're seeing a lot on the fediverse about threads. We all have our own opinions, and many of us don't trust Meta, and trust their intentions relating to ActivtyPub even less. So, you're seeing a lot about it because it's a point of concern, it isn't just a hate band wagon meant to make you feel guilty for enjoying threads.

Use what you want and worry less about other people's opinion. If you have no problem, and you find threads to be helpful, then go for it, no reason to grand stand on here. You're definitely not preaching to the choir on this one.

  • Opera GX refuses to log in correctly, I've cleared my cookies/browser data 5 times now, closed entirely and reopened. But when I log in, it says "Logged in!" but then I'm not logged in. I tried logging in on Edge and that worked, maybe a reboot of the system will help.
