  • It's not from a specific place. It was an old GIF I knew and I searched for it. You could search "[something] perfect loop gif" or similar in a search engine.

  • You can also just download any GIF and convert it into WebP using an online converter like this. Then you can set that converted WebP as your profile picture.

  • Well, I use ReVanced so I won't have to pay a penny and still have all the features from the official app

  • Typing from a Samsung Galaxy A50 right now, as a long time Samsung user. I've always hated TouchWiz from the older days, but I really love One UI. I'd even go as far as to say that One UI is the best Android skin (controversial opinion, lol)!

  • I heard it was released for Windows, how well does it work? I might ditch the Samsung Link to Windows app then

  • I've used it before, it doesn't work at all even on multiple devices. But hey, that's just me. Maybe the app has improved now.

  • It's the same mentality as people just pressing "Next" in an installer and wonder why their browser homepage is hijacked or why there are programs that they never installed. People see the "Block" or "Accept" options in the notifications dialog and press Accept without even reading, especially on mobile browsers (Chrome) where it asks you as if it's a system message.

  • On the default Lemmy web UI, no. But some apps aggregate an account's votes and call them "Score", so it does exist but not many can see it.

  • They exist so that your granny or mom won't fall (or atleast be warned) for stupid scams that want you to install an "official bank app" or something to steal everything. Same deal with Play Protect. Yes, they suck for power users but atleast normies or the elderly will be warned or protected. You can still bypass them, they still give you the control. That's better than what Apple does.

  • Well, it's not for no reason. The middle one is the Display Name, which is the same as their username by default. The top is for account switching and the small bottom one is the "real" username. I don't see anything wrong with this. Maybe they could merge the small bottom text that shows your username with the account switcher, but otherwise I see zero issues with this.

  • Click the community name above the post, for example !liftoff@lemmy.world. You should see a subscribe button there.

You can search for a community by going to the app's main screen and pressing on the magnifying glass icon. There, select your instance and enter a search query. From there, select Communities for a list of communities from your search result. If you want to discover communities, just enter a space in the search query and hit search, it should give you a list of all communities (in that instance I suppose).

  • They're not isolated. They are also part of the Fediverse. I regularly see many people posting and commenting from Kbin on Lemmy instances.

  • Kbin is completely different from Lemmy, in that it is not Lemmy. It's like a mix of Mastodon and Lemmy.

  • Well, kiwibrowser/src isn't updated because kiwibrowser/src.next is the actual up-to-date Kiwi Browser. Kiwi Next is similar to a beta version, and releases for Kiwi Browser are based on Kiwi Next. You can just compile Kiwi Next if you are paranoid. It's the best Android Chromium browser.

The whole search engine debacle was unnecessary, and that basically killed Kiwi's reputation even though it really had zero impact on anyone or anything. I mean, if the default search engine is something you don't prefer, it's just a few goddamn presses to change it to whatever you want.

  • It would be good in theory, but it's a really bad idea because if that Gmail address is associated to some other sites, then the new owner can basically take control of all the sites the Gmail address was used in.

  • A Samsung Galaxy A50, it's my beloved treasure! It was my first phone that I bought with part of my own saved money.

It's pretty usable, to this day. It runs Android 11 but only recently got axed for security updates, so I may get a new phone soon. There's really nothing not to love about it.

The battery has deteriorated though, I can barely get 4-5 hours SOT without using 80-90% of the battery. Also, the adhesive that holds the back plastic panel to the phone keeps coming apart so it doesn't hold anymore, which is kinda nasty. I've re-applied back panel adhesive two times but it keeps happening, presumably due to heat. Never seen this happen to any phone other than the A50.

  • Hmm. This inactivity deletion kind of sucks. Many people may not realise it and get some of their accounts deleted. Also, people tell that you shouldn't be using Google services but what actually are great alternatives to Gmail? I know you can self host an email server, but I would prefer not to.

  • Oh damn, I probably have a couple accounts that just sit idle but have some info on them. I should get to it.

  • Didn't know about that, what parts of it are closed source?
