Lemmy is a bigger echo chamber than reddit

Yeah, reinforcing your beliefs in an echo-chamer is comforting, isn't it?
I love how much more international and diverse lemmy is. I'm American, but I am happier with the fact that lemmy isn't 85%+ Americans like on reddit (not a real statistic). I enjoy seeing more content from different perspectives and nationalities.
Being pragmatic is to take the lesser of two evils. You're taking a different option entirely. Inaction.
I will admit I fell into this during the first election cycle in which I could vote, which was 2016. I couldn't stomach voting for Hillary after the Debbie Wasserman Schultz/DNC corruption with Bernie.
I dispised trump, but refused to vote for the lesser of two evils. Never again... I'm not a big fan of Biden, but I voted for him and I will eagerly do so again.
My first thought reading the title was "Better check his posting history, probably alt right."
They are certainly outnumbered on lemmy and face factual rebuttals without insulation of echo-chamers.
It takes time and experience to distinguish what makes something good or bad or just average.
Well maybe some day you'll have enough experience to distinguish good games. You're clearly not there just yet.
I liked it more than Ratchet and Clank too, but Jack and Daxter was my jam.
I replayed the original just a few years ago and it still holds up so well..
The far-right movement has been spreading around the world.. It's perhaps most on display in the US right now, but it is a global threat.
I was just thinking I want a list of russia's senior officers with the dead scratched out for visual representation. Their losses are insane..
I was just thinking about the Iraqi Most Wanted playing cards given to US troops, and that if there was one for russia, I feel like half the deck would be dead officers by now.
That is absolutely ridiculous.. Our brains don't even finish developing until our mid 20s (some research suggests it can take an additional few years for those with ADHD).
My school performance (with ADHD) was so much different in middle and high school than thru undergrad and now graduate school.
It's totally asinine to put that kind of pressure on kids, especially when standardized tests don't even accurately evaluate learned material.
It's different on other platforms (like mastodon) but on lemmy, it only blocks posts from the blocked instance. Users from Threads would still be interacting in comments with the user who blocks their instance.
Regardless, I believe they should be defederated by instance admins on ethical grounds. Meta/FB have run unethical, uninformed experiments on their users, including purposefully inducing depression in their users.
The fact that Meta has assisted in genocide should be grounds for defederation by instances which claim to protect and care about their users.
Meta's platforms have also played a key role in radicalizing users, and they purposefully marketed Threads to far-right extremists.
Here's my argument with citations
There's also good arguments to defederate and block them from the fedivers based on EEE.
If an instance's admins claim they care about protecting their users and providing a safe, healthy community but are federated with Threads, then they are either uninformed or liars.
You can test positive for THC even if using the not full-spectrum CBD. I was frustrated by this and just got a medical card because I was tripping at-home drug tests (the dollar tree THC kit is actually pretty reliable btw).
But now that I'm looking for a new job and will likely be tested frequently while working on my clinical mental health master's, I have to give up a significant quality of life in order to work in this industry at this time.
My rec/med state has no protection for "safety sensitive positions," which range from truck drivers to medical doctors. Until it's federally rescheduled, people like me have to choose career and suffering or quality of life.
I've had many providers offer me narcotics, but I have no interest in them. I've tried them and they feel too good.. I've seen them destroy the lives of functioning, healthy people, both professionally and in my personal life. Non-narcotics don't make any difference, and neither do NSAIDs.
The only effective and safe way I have found to manage my pain is with weed. I would never use it on the job, and while people in my industry joke about drinking nightly for self-care, I can get fucked for wanting to run my volcano. Total bullshit...
Awesome, just added it! Thanks!
Done. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well this dog's head was bigger than mine, and I remember from Mythbusters that a medium-sized trained attack dog they used as an analog had around a 500-600 pound bite-force. So this German Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix definitely had a greater bite-force than 600 pounds.
I later learned the 'proper' way to separate fighting dogs is to pull them apart by their hind legs. You're less likely to be bit that way.
I love my dogs as much as my human family members, and I just went caveman and charged in like an idiot...
I was about a story and a half high in a magnolia tree when I was about 10, and I had walked out on one branch, holding a smaller branch for balance.
I didn't realize the one I was standing on was dead, and it snapped at the trunk.. The small branch I was holding wasn't enough to hold my weight, and it snapped too.
The branch I was standing on bounced off the springy ground that was many years worth of shedded leaves, and it hit me in the lower back just before I was about to land on the ground.
It caused a minor fracture in a vertebrate, and caused me a lot of pain at the time, but I didn't complain because I didn't want to be "a little girl" (I had two unforgiving older brothers). When I was in 8th grade, I had my first back ache and had x-rays which found the childhood fracture which mishealed due to not being treated.
It still causes me a lot of trouble whenever I'm bent over for long or if I have a back ache.
Both of my hands have some scar tissue which gives me some trouble about 1/11 of the times I do a pinching/clamp kind of grip. Those injuries were from sticking my hands in a dog's mouth to pry his mouth off of my dog's throat last year. At first, all my might wasn't enough, and he chomped the fuck out of my hands.
Then my adrenaline kicked in and I pried his mouth open like it was nothing. I then kind of suplexed and wrestled the dog so mine could be taken to safety. I don't regret it one bit, but it was definitely a stupid thing to do.. but I can still play the piano just fine!
I also came dangerously close to losing an eye from a tooth or nail. It happened so fast I'm not sure what did it. Here are some pictures.
Stole his girlfriend and his mojo.
I'm angry that I live in a medical/rec state, but still have to give up quality of life/chronic pain management to work in my industry... medical cards offer no employment protection here.
It basically is...
A good practice is to check who funded the given study. Look under acknowledgements.
In this case, it was Zespri International Ltd. "the world’s largest marketer of kiwifruit"
The purported benefits claims are from self-assessment phone surveys..
Definitively no suspicion of bias in this research...
Lemmy most certainly is less of an echo-chamer. There's often good discussions and less toxic responses and blanket downvoting (not that it doesn't happen).
Typically, heavily downvoted users are trolls, hateful comments, or categorically false claims/propoganda (which is why conservatives don't like it). But there is still toxic bandwagon voting that suppresses dissenting opinions.
But to claim it's on the same level as reddit is laughable. You can claim that lemmy is a "leftist" echo-chamer, but the important distinction is that the "right" do not hold themselves or their news sources to any standard or basis is reality.
Lemmy may be more leftist, but that doesn't mean it's an echo-chamer in the way reddit/conservative forums/subreddits are echo-chamers. And it sure as hell doesn't mean the news/discussion is biased/false in the way it is among conservatives.
Not to mention, there are stark differences in the way extremism manifests and the propensity for violence between the right and left.
