  • Maybe an unpopular opinion but I think a lot of anti intellectual thinking is a combination of religious and corporate influence on the world.

Religion more or less teaches that you should believe what you're told, not what you discover or learn for yourself. It's a subtle but powerful way to discourage people from seeking the truths in life because they are genuinely convinced they've found the answer for everything.

Similarly with corporate influence so heavily a part of our lives people are quick to fall into the trap of consumerism. From a young age we are being conditioned to accept that it's normal to have to pay multiple times for the same product and to replace our possessions regularly. The cost of living that way makes the time and expense of continuing education unattainable for the average person, which often leads to bitterness about their situation and anger towards those who are able to work a white collar job or live an easier life.

Both are problems without quickly enacted solutions. People have to be taught to think critically without being put off or angered when they get to topics that contradict what they want to believe.

  • Same thoughts here.

Watching the world's reaction to the Ukraine/Russia conflict compared to the Israel/Palestine conflict is equally baffling.

The world's moral compass spins like a top. At what point can we just declare all these attacks and wars unjust and a waste of life and resources?

We have the technology and resources to make a utopia for all humanity but instead we spend our time and money coming up with new ways to kill each other and reasons to be hateful. It's only going to get worse as the world shrinks from climate shift.

What a time to be alive. History will look back on us with disgust.

  • Companies have to know about an attack and announce it to the public for it to exist? For all anyone knows Google is littered with backdoors and zero days and the people responsible are smart enough to siphon off the data quietly. Nothing is safe online and we need to stop pretending Google wouldn't downplay or sweep a breach under the rug to save face.

Google shouldn't be trusted with the data we give them in the first place.

  • In case anyone else misunderstood the title the guy wasn't producing incest videos himself but he had all kinds of underage and incest content on his electronics that he was exchanging with other pedos.

He was definitely doing some disgusting stuff but he wasn't physically abusing anyone as far as these charges are concerned, which is what I assumed based on the headline. It sounds like he hasn't had the chance to act on his perversions but he was actively looking for someone to abuse.

  • Practically the whole world is standing up to back up Ukraine and the US House can't stop hating each other enough to find money for that.

I'm sure they "want to help" because it's a nice thing to say and it gets votes from rubes, but anyone who wanted to help would stop blabbering to cameras and get their ass to work. The political chaos is their own doing and they should have the spotlight shone brightly on their failures any time they dare set foot in front of a camera to denounce their colleagues.

Fix your own bullshit before you white knight for your white friends in the middle east you fucking clowns.

  • A great job from both McLaren drivers, happy to see them at the front even if it's just for the sprint. That understeer for Lando at the end of qualifying is worrying though. Hopefully that doesn't mean they cook their tires early like they have in the past.

  • I didn't say that.

I think people who are already struggling will find it more difficult to right the ship when the habit or addiction that's dragging them down is constantly dangling in front of their face. When you feel like everyone else must be doing the same thing it's much harder to realize that you may have a problem or where the problems are coming from.

Years ago everyone chewed tobacco or smoked. Some people believed that smoking was good for them. Plenty of people watched their wallets empty and their teeth fall out of their heads, but it was normal because everyone else was doing it too right? With everyone in films firing up, cool characters like Joe Camel showing you how badass you could be as a smoker, and a commercial or billboard telling you about the newest smokes every few minutes, it's a lot harder to think that maybe if you didn't smoke as much your coughing would stop.

The advertising may not be the root cause, but normalizing something that also has to be age restricted should be a red flag in the first place.
