  • I run a construction business and I have close relatives who refuse my services because I don't take payments "under the table." Their reasoning is that I don't need to pay taxes and they get a discount. Win-win - except for that the entire risk of legal consequences is on me and secondly it's exactly because of people who do this that many of my customers have unrealistic expectations of how much it costs to hire a contractor. The dude doing it for 30€/hr is not paying taxes on that.

  • I know you're joking but a toilet that analyzes your stool would be quite remarkable health monitoring device to go along with our smartwatches and stuff. I bet there's loads of health markers you could see from it.

  • In many cases, it comes down to one person’s word against another’s with little to no additional evidence, making it naturally difficult to convict anyone. I’d argue that it’s better to let a guilty person walk free than to risk imprisoning someone who is innocent.

  • Which is complete bullshit. Men are getting arrested daily on the basis of mere accusation of rape having happened. It's illegal and it's one of the most strongly enforced laws there is. This was the case before me-too and especially is the case since.

    Exhibit A: P. Diddy.

  • I agree. I didn't quite mean it as "you can just ignore it" but rather that "understand it's just words and you can learn to not take it personally"

I say plenty of unpopular things here myself and though I have downvotes disabled I can still feel the pain when being dogpiled on despite having years of experience with it. No one is immune to it - we just have different levels of tolerance.
