When shopping at a friends business you should rather pay more than expect a discount

  • I run a construction business and I have close relatives who refuse my services because I don't take payments "under the table." Their reasoning is that I don't need to pay taxes and they get a discount. Win-win - except for that the entire risk of legal consequences is on me and secondly it's exactly because of people who do this that many of my customers have unrealistic expectations of how much it costs to hire a contractor. The dude doing it for 30€/hr is not paying taxes on that.

  • Just because the maximum penalty for a crime is 15 years of prison it doesn't mean that's what she's going to get. In all likelyhood she's getting a fine at best. This is just feeding the outrage machine once again.

  • I agree. I didn't quite mean it as "you can just ignore it" but rather that "understand it's just words and you can learn to not take it personally"

    I say plenty of unpopular things here myself and though I have downvotes disabled I can still feel the pain when being dogpiled on despite having years of experience with it. No one is immune to it - we just have different levels of tolerance.
