  • No it's the same gobshites. Boris was leader at the last election, Sunak and co are part of the same group. The anti-conservatives conservative party. All the conservatives were culled from the party. The people in the party causing trouble for Rishi are those further to the right and people who believe Boris can turn it all around again.

  • He lost the only party member leadership vote he took part in. He lost to someone completely detached from reality, that immediately sought to destroy the value of most people pensions that only benefitted a few hedge funds looking to profit from the UKs demise.

  • Their behaviour suggests they want an escalation. If the Philippines responds with lethal aggression to the very dangerous and irresponsible 'non-lethal aggression' of the Chinese navy. This will provide China some PR/diplomatic cover to grab land/sea from the Philippines.

They are doing this because they want to use violence. But they don't want the sanctions unprovoked aggression would lead to. Even if no one believes China it leaves an excuse to continue trade with China as it grabs land.

Unprovoked land grabs have caused many sanctions to be applied to Russia. However, Israel is grabbing land in Gaza without sanctions because the Hamas attack preceding the land grab gives Israel diplomatic cover. Even though many people believe Israel new about Hama's planned attack earlier, deliberately reduced security and there are even accusations the Israeli government funded Hama's prior to the attack.

  • No, every decision maker in the chain of command should be responsible. They should know what the intelligence is based on, if the people sharing the information are competent and should be validating the information.

Using AI to perform these tasks requires gross negligence at several stages. However, it does appear killing civilians and children is the intended outcome so negligence about AI is likely just a cover.

  • Using 12 and 16 makes for easier maths (pre-calculators). It's easier to divide and get an integer. With easy access to calculators and highly precise measurements (especially digital systems) metric makes more sense and is easier to interpret quickly.

  • Makeing the accusations public can help gather converting evidence. People will know if they have some information in support or defence of the allegations that they can come forward.

It also makes it easier for others that have been a victim of a similar crime by the accused and his associates. It's likely if this crime happened, it happened more than once and to many victims.

  • They get the play store account that published the apps, likely also some support from the original developer for a while.

The original play store account has all the downloads and reputation associated with the project. It also has the revenue from adds and new purchases. The developer can modify the apps and send these out as updates. This could include things like more ads and tracking to generate additional revenue.

  • They only need one big win. If they manage that, the rest would be much easier. As arguments will have been made and ruled. They can refer to the case against Google as precedent, making the subsequent court cases short, cheaper and/or not be necessary. If Google loses apple, Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo will all examine changing policy or settling any disagreements earlier.

  • More than you think. They are also actively seeking ways to make that leverage effect more people.

They are defining web standards. They control chrome and chromium. So all of the alternative browsers that aren't safari and Firefox are using Google's web engine. Even Firefox and safari are beholden to Google as they fund both these web browsers through their default search deals.

Google after many failed messaging apps has taken on RCS messaging. They provide most of the supporting infrastructure through their Jibe servers. They don't allow anyone but themselves and Samsung to make an RCS app on android. They also had a campaign to pressure apple to use RCS. It's likely apple's RCS will be following Google's Jibe service closely, as they've already said their will work with Google on this. Google successfully got most RCS messages going through their servers, with apple on board with RCS itll see most SMS messages defaulting to RCS and most of those going through Google.

They also have deep hooks into education market with their OneDrive/Google docs products and Chromebooks.

Most privacy focused android alternatives recommend Google hardware.

  • We have had surprisingly few mass infectious diseases despite the massive increase in world population. Its really surprising COVID took so long to happen and that it was relatively mild.

COVID like infection will happen again, we won't be prepared again and the lockdown/mask compliance will be even weaker. We are really screwed.

  • France wanted to maintain its empire. This is costly and expensive, so they wanted help to do this. They used the risk of them becoming neutral in the cold war to push the US into supporting them in Vietnam. They didn't use the NATO alliance to force assistance, this wasn't clear in my comment. NATO country's like the UK didn't get involved in Vietnam, even with the US offering trying to pay them to send troops (UK was uniquely adapt at Jungle fighting relative to other western powers).

It may not seem like it today but early cold war post world war 2 the west wasn't as unified as it is today. British and France seriously consider themselves being a third way, continuing their imperial past. Not communist like Russia or Liberal like the US. Eventually the US through influence and might pushed them into fully liberal countries. America's liberal constitution/history made it's politicians and political culture anti imperialist. But they were far more anti-fascist and anti-communist, so they accepted western Europe as allies.

America's anti-communist actions often had it labelled as the anti-imperialist imperialist. But their 'empire' usually consisted of getting locals to get the country running again with US military and finical backing. This resulted in the US becoming strong allies with their conquered countries despite those countries having completely independent control of their nation and foreign policy. Like Japan and Korea (it could have been possible with Afghanistan if the Taliban didn't immediately take over).
