The hard part is their business model assumes free moderation. Adding labor in any form will change the valuation because it’s based on future revenue. Now they have a lot of ‘splainin’ for investors and no one knows what the company is worth. If they have to pay for moderation it’s an entirely different business so I don’t see them suddenly cutting checks for the good mods who remained.

Looks like they underestimated the way the backlash would manifest and now have to hold their nose and wait for the subs to re-build momentum naturally.

But everyone knows not to execute your own leadership because who is going to run the day to day ops? It’ll take years just to get back to where they were in terms of quality and quantity because they nuked some of the most experienced and engaged redditors. More of a Pyrrhic victory, I’d say.

Hey what’s that cool neutron star?! Send a copy of my consciousness to explore it for 10,000 years then transmit the memories back when ready. For vacation, I was downloaded into a wolf body for two weeks. I ran wild with a pack of dogs on a planet untouched by human hands.

So lifelike!

But it takes a while to detect, form an opinion, then act on it. Suppose that 10,000 people per day reject some brand, say this is enough!, and refuse to buy their products. Well, the marketing and sales department has its work cut out: use mild deception, purchase competitors, change local laws, and make sure that more customers are added than the attrition. And even if they didn’t add any new customers, there are so many current customers for companies like proctor and gamble or nestle, that it will still take 15,000 days or 41 years for even half of the US population to “reject” the brand or company. It’s just not feasible for individuals to fight corporate advertising and marketing mechanics on appropriate time and economic scales.

But compared to a government regulatory body? That scares a company or industry, or at least it used to :(
