  • And can exhaust an emotion. Like, rather than deny or repressing like we do for most of the day, let’s get into it…put the sad album on repeat. But you can only listen to even a great album so many times (cough cough cure disintegration) before you need a change of feeling. And I suppose this coincides with our own feelings (but for the transient, fun life’s-ups-and-downs kinda sadness not the clinical life-affecting one with doctors and medication and occasional week on a locked floor).

  • They’ve been stealing taxpayer dollars for 30 years, constantly stalling and delaying and then saying the plans are now outdated and we need more money for the new plans. Repeat every decade. Everyone knows it’s a monopoly with speed/price fixing yet somehow it never improves.

  • I especially hate that using the time limiter on google search set to 1 week or month and all the Reddit posts are from 5-7 years ago. It used to be you could convince google to find what you wanted since Reddit search sucks but even that is dying. Maybe they can put ads on the “close my account forever” page.

  • You’re missing the point. (And old reddit sucks too, it’s always been about RES+imagus). I mean that if we only ever had an official shitty app, reddit would never be what it became, it would still be a third rate aggregator. My opinion is that Reddit’s success was due in no small part to the quality of the unofficial apps especially for power users and mods.

  • The clouds part revealing a dusky gray and pink sunset. The smell of blood and iron and smoke are in the air but all is still. In the fading light a peasant stumbles over to you and unwraps a beautiful gift from the folds of their cloak and extends her arms as if to give it to you. “I made this…”, she says softly.

You take this marvel and raise it high with both hands into the last sunbeam and brilliant light shines and sparkles, a beacon for everyone near and far. In a clear and confidant voice you declare: “I made this!”

  • It’s been a minute, but the universe is expanding and the speed of the expansion depends on the total gravity. When we calculate the amount of mass it would take to make that much gravity, it’s way more than what we actually see out in the universe. It’s really a cheeky way of saying our current model makes tons of good predictions so we trust that something is out there, but in reality we don’t know its nature and can’t detect or measure it directly.

  • No, nothing like that. Everything is within our universe. He says he has a new way of describing light where it loses energy over time (something weird) and so it explains redshift. His idea says the redshift is wrong and the universe is older. He also says universal constants can change (something never observed before that would fundamentally change physics) and he can explain dark matter.

So, a lot of over-the-top claims. I’m pretty sure this guy isn’t toppling physics today as the bar is set high for whatever evidence he is sharing.

  • But only in comparison to the good apps. If we never had the others we’d never know and Reddit might never have gotten big. Those apps drove a much higher rate of engagement because of well they were made. It’s like now I couldn’t even engage at the same rate if I tried. And I’m only talking about viewing posts, commenting, and voting. I can’t imagine how the changes are for mods.
