  • It's more like only having to say "purple" and then only get people who worked with purple before and are much more likely to be pro-purple than normal people who are overwhelmingly anti purple.

Just replace "purple" with "government secret".

  • Most evil in the world doesn't come from cartoon villains. It comes from people just doing their job but they have been filtered, trained and biased because of the rules of the system. If all they have to do is say "top secret" to get filter for a certain kind of desirable person and the entire process biased against democratic interests like freedom of the press and accountability for governments, then they win. "They" being the anti-democratic systems of power.

  • You're either in favor of freedom of the press and not throwing journalists into jail for uncovering things governments want to keep secret, or you're not.

This appeal to purity is misguided. The US want the power to extradite any journalist anywhere in the world for crimes against the state. Do you want that?

  • Another criterion might be to be self employed. I have little experience with that and it probably has it's pro's and con's but depending on what corporate culture you'll face as an employee. But it might be worth keep it in mind when choosing your profession.

  • I think this is a huge problem with democracy as well. The larger a country, the worse democracy works. Any apparatus of power or wealth attracts parasites only interested in exploiting it. And the larger the lever, the more profit from manipulating it. And the larger the potential gain the more investment costs can you justify.

This isn't necessarily an argument for "states rights" or federation though, with "divide and conquer" strategies you can copy and paste the same strategy to multiple instances. If there is monetary gain to be had, there will always be an unrelenting force trying to exploit it.

  • They could also be manufacturing the crisis and then taking advantage of this. Like mobbing the good cops to leave and then to be able to say "crisis!" and recruit more fascist cops.

Ahhh I'm just kidding there are no god cops and these guys aren't that smart ;)

  • Is this just political theater or is this guy planning to recruit brownshirts into the police force?

This is somehow reminiscent of how the nazis came to power, including the milktoast reporting by mainstream media. If they continue to inject their brand of fascists into the system they'll slowly gain more and more power and win.

  • Oh wow thanks for the detailed answer! I guess the most likely answer is that it probably will degrade over a long time span, and during that time negative effects could happen.

  • It's a shit show either way. I remember when vaping started, it was pretty awesome that it was unregulated and a lot of experimentation, discussion and "consumer led" development.

The regulations and outright bans on vaping pushed by the WHO were and still are concessions to puritanical thinking (no harm reduction for smokers!) or support for nicotine replacement therapies (much less effective like patch). And of course they also lead to a few big companies being able to afford the regulations (big tobacco) now being able to compete against smaller companies (less competition).

But of course without any regulations, sooner or later you have other "big whatever" corporations pushing shitty unsafe products. And once money is flowing they will always lobby and capture the legislation to improve profit instead of competition or better quality or safer products.

Regulations are a major form of power that is very badly managed. The economic power / money behind this leads to major distortions and corruption. In many cases new ideology is being crafted by PR campaigns that have long term effects. We need to get some kind of democratic control into this, maybe like a fifth estate comprised of nerds that can act quickly and smartly and have no political or monetary incentive.

  • This is so insane. It actually does look like the police officers completely freaked and just started blasting and then got into a kind of panicked frenzy.

Basically the only way to be safe from police is to not have windows or have bulletproof glass or some kind demilitarized zone so you can see who is coming without coming "out of cover". Have a video phone to talk to would be visitors.
