I don't think you'll have any trouble with Mint. I've set up senior citizens with Mint desktops and have yet to have any major issues. Contrary to what many people think, a solid Linux distro like Mint really isn't all that hard for a newbie to wrap their head around.
I've been using Linux Mint for the last....eight years? I think? Anyway, it's been great for gaming and if you want a minimum of fussing about, I would just install Steam and use Proton for compatibility. It's by far the easiest and most tinker-free gaming experience for Linux - at least in my experience. I can count on one hand the number of times I've had to really research and tinker with any annoying issues. protondb.com has been extremely helpful in checking the compatibility of a certain game for Linux and even offers tips and tricks to make the fussier games work.
Very little, if anything, would remain of our civilization in five or six million years. At least I wouldn't think so, aside from what we have floating in outer space. Six million years is an awfully long time, and it's not like our consumer-based society builds things to last...
You make perfect sense, and I'm inclined to agree with you. I think an argument can be made that the internet, for all it's positive aspects, has made our society worse in a lot of ways. I would love to go back, even though I know it's not possible.

I'm thinking either Finland or Norway. But the only way I could ever emigrate to either of those countries would be as an asylum seeker. I don't make enough money, nor do I have any skills they want. I've got plenty of skills...just not any that are in 'high demand'.
One doesn't do the right thing to be rewarded or to 'get ahead'. One does the right thing because it's the right thing to do. Selfishness only leads to insecurity and loneliness.
It doesn't help that our culture - especially internet culture - loooooooves self-deprecating 'humor'. We even put ourselves down for putting ourselves down! I've had a lot of success with trying to focus more on my triumphs than my failures. It's all about the language I use with myself, I've found. When I have a victory (even a small one), I say "Good job! You nailed it!". When I fail, I say "Well, that sucked....but you'll get it next time. Keep trying!". Most of us don't have our own personal cheerleaders, so we have to become our own. :)
