  • Yeah, tbh, the insane focus on privacy makes YouTube a lot worse, no shit. The algorithm just throws shit at the wall hoping it sticks, what do you expect?

Make a burner account only for YouTube. See how the quality goes up because you can follow people you are actually interested in.

I personally really don't see the privacy risk with that? (then again, I gave up on the idea of true privacy online years ago. Privacy through obscurity is enough. I don't care big companies recognize my habits, as long as they don't know 100% exactly who I am.)

  • I mean... Tell me you are pedantic without telling me you are pedantic...

  • I'm not arguing Google is a holy company and inheritely good. It's just that they offer a service and in the capitalist market we live in, they want/need to be compensated. If you don't like it, vote with your wallet. I can live with the price I pay to use YouTube. It gives me just enough joy in life that I find the monetary fee reasonable. If they would jack up the prices, I might say fuck it and find alternatives.

My whole point is that this blocking of ad blocking apps is not a surprise at all, and even understandable from a capitalist company pov.

That doesn't mean I support capitalism and assholes making life worse for us plebs. It just means that in this particular situation, it fits with my lifestyle as a cog in the machine. It's too much of a pita for me personally to "pirate" YouTube vids like I do with other media content.

  • To play advocate of the devil here (I can feel the down votes and Foss brigade already coming) : I can understand their logic. Their whole business is fucking ads. These apps bypass their entire business. Count yourself lucky they've ignored them this long.

YouTube premium is actually one of the only subscription services I use. My entire family gets ad free YouTube + YouTube premium. The amount of YouTube we watch and music we listen... 100% worth it. + a premium view supports creators more than a free view, so I even get to feel a bit better about myself. (I watch too many different channels to make it financially viable for myself to send them all a dollar/month through means outside of YouTube)

  • Been saying this for years, the day Firefox gets native gestures, is the day I'll swap.

Can't live without them (and speeddial tbh)

  • Why would I use brave (with its weird fucked up crypto links) over Vivaldi? If you're using chromium anyway, I don't get the brave love.

  • I mean, it's almost Monday again, have to find a reason to get a long weekend no?

  • Haven't seen a queue in ages tbh. Weak argument, not to mention that it doesn't make any sense whatsoever

  • Pay 2 win? Where? Genuine question. Played it for 40h after launch, never once felt like paying money?

  • I'm a big John Scalzi fan. Whenever one of his books release, it's basically xmas for me. There have been a few less than stellar books, but overal they are very enjoyable.

  • Mainly using messenger... Can't get any of my friends (admittedly millennials) to move over to discord or even WhatsApp...

At least it beats using fucking Line, which is the dominant platform where I live. That app is pure cancer.

Sucks, but social life decides which platform you use.

  • In what world is paying 40usd for a game and 3x 30usd for 500h of entertainment not a good deal? (not particularly aimed at you, but at dlc haters in general)

I am glad when they release a dlc. I get more great content. They get some more financial support.

I am 100% against cheap cash grabs. I am 100% pro multiple well made extentions for a game that allow me to support the studio.

  • It's interesting that cheerleaders still dress like that in Japan imo. Habits are hard to change, especially in the land of the rising sun :)

National fashion became very conservative in the past 10-15 years. Like almost not even a bare shoulder conservative. Skirts also became much longer in recent times. The ultra mini skirts that Japan was famous for are also on their way out. The whole legging craze that hit the rest of the world never even made it to Japan.

Just let the cheerleaders wear more clothes?

  • Not refusing, but lately I basically don't pirate games anymore. Steam made it so easy to buy games... + pirating games is always a pita with the required hacks etc. (or at least it was way back when I did it).

Software I don't pirate, I just use foss stuff wherever I can.

I also don't pirate books in general. Just get them on Kindle and support the author (and unfortunately also Jeff bezos)

I pay for Netflix (mainly for kids) and go to the theater for big movies, but aside from that I pirate all screen content.

I also pirate comics, but that's 90% because it's almost impossible to get them legally where I live. I would pay for DC unlimited if it was available in my neck of the woods.

  • Just a few dlc/expansion packs that were totally worth their money

    All Rimworld expansions.

Diablo 3 reaper of souls/ D2 lord of destruction

The witcher blood and wine (?)

    Ballad of gay tony

    Star craft ones

    Red alert yuris revenge

    Horizon zero dawn frozen wilds

Etc... There are good expansions that are totally worth their money and add to the overall game.

That being said, I'm not a huge dlc fan and rarely spend money on them if they don't really add to the game. More partial to spend on dlc for smaller studio games rather than large ones.

  • Did not know this was a thing. Thx!

Unfortunately I couldn't remove it with Shizuku + Canta. Can remove the devicelockcontrolleroverlay. But not the actual devicelock controller. Canta says it removes it, shows up in removed apps, but when I refresh canta, it's just installed regardless. Always stays visible in app list as well.

  • Egypt is lowest on the rape list. There is a huge stigma to report a rape in Egypt. From what I gather, nobody trusts the Egyptian numbers.

My gut tells me the situation is similar in both Armenistan and Turkmenistan. Punishment for rape might be severe, but very likely the social pressure on the victims is also immense.

  • Big difference between reported rape and actual rape.

That being said, I hope for Turkmenistan and Armenia these numbers are for actual rape, good on them if it's low.
