  • And really the big problem here is the cars, 20 cars takes up a lot more space than even 60 people. People could even fit on the lawn if space allows. The cars make noise honking and running, they are the ones with bright lights. If everyone got off a bus, watched a show, and walked to the next stop it wouldn't be nearly as problematic. Perhaps a designated area nearby where cars are expected to park and people and their family could walk to see the show could have been a solution.

  • The bikes per hours right now is a flawed stat. The system hasn't been installed long enough to get great use and there are still some areas that are not well connected. It takes a well connected network and some time for cyclists to commit to routes.

  • It is so obvious this guy is a crook. Why has our legal system done nothing about the land scandal? Why is someone with such strong developer ties able to override a municipality and force construction work?

  • Thats what I thought too. If we cared about each other enough we'd be able to feed and house ourselves while we demand better, but a lot of us are divided (which is their goal) and so we'd rather blame minorities or whatever group your politician told you ro hate.

  • Either way, most people aren't willing to risk being fired/missing pay/being arrested because they need that money to pay rent and feed themselves. You can be as organized as you want, the system has pushed most of us to being wage slaves that have very little say in the matter. Even if importing labour isn't immediate, i wouldn't put it past governments to still let the economy collapse while they import labour just to prove a point about who makes the rules and has the control.

  • A big part of the problem is those most impacted by these policies cannot afford to take time off to strike or protest. And I'm not sure if it's as bad in America as it is in Canada but if there was a general labour strike, our Canadian politicians would just solve it by importing cheap labour.

  • Doesn't seem like the fairest option if the descendant was never notified the land could be theirs. I'm not sure what the fair option is but it seems wrong to throw 100 years of taxes at someone for a property they may not have known they could inherit. Why did the city never catch on they didn't get the taxes for 100 years? Why did they wait for public complaints to look into it and suddenly the taxes are important?

  • The worst about this particular sign is it switches between dark colors and bright colors, which seems to make the blinding light even worse and more distracting. Somehow a company's right to advertise is more important than safety, even admist a crackdown on distracted driving. Only the phone screen is bad i guess? Cantdo anything about outdoor signs or auto manufacturers putting ipads into the dash.

  • I have a friend who says things like "oh that project isn't real its just a think tank".

Nobody writes a document that long and detailed just as a little thought experiment. It was obviously a manifesto and I don't know how so many people against project 2025 still voted for the party supporting it.

  • Do the planning experts also call out how nearly every part of the associatiated bill will actually achieve the oposite of its goals? No amount of additional highways will end gridlock in such dense cities, we need alternatives that are not just more lanes. The idea is so bad the law if passed will pretty much make it impossible to stop them from building hwy 413. If the idea was a good solution, you wouldn't need to write into law that no one can stop you.

This law could set ontario back by decades. We are already decades behind on transit, mobility, and housing. This law would just make things worse while also extending the climate crisis, the housing crisis, and increasing municipal roadway maintaince and construction costs, while they already cannot afford to maintain their exisiting roads and sprawl. There will be a wave of roadway expansions and additional lanes to roads this highway leads to.

Its like we are trying to build the worst country we can and we keep pretending the 50s was peak civilization. We ignore legitmate studies about induced demand. We make it impossible to build housing that isn't single family homes. We hold no accountability to a politician involved in a multi billion dollar land scandal.

  • We have fucking digital billboards in my town which is basically an outdoor TV. It is so bright at night it can light up the street. It's way too distracting to have on a roadway, people get distracted trying to to watch a full advertisement. The ads are similar to how fast food menus are constantly changing and showing close ups of food and deals. This should 100% be illegal next to a roadway, hell they are diatracting enough inside the store sometimes.
