  • They were attempting to talk him down throughout the entire engagement. They don't just shoot nonlethal without giving instructions. They also warn saying things like "drop the machete or you will be tazed/bean bagged/pepperballed." Eventually he did drop the machete, and the pain from nonlethal may have contributed to that. I'd rather the suspect be in pain than be shot to death.

If the suspect was still inside the burning building, there was likely a sense of urgency to get him out before smoke inhalation, high heat, or building collapse became a significant threat to his life.

  • If a server is struggling to make enough tips to compete with minimum wage, what is stopping them from quiting that restaurant and getting a minimum wage job somewhere like retail or fast food? Most of the servers i know make A LOT more than minimum wage, some can easilly pull an extra $300 on a weekend night.

  • The server minimum wage in my province is $16.55/hr, the base minimum wage is $17.20/hr, a difference of $0.65/hr.

If the server get a $1 tip per hour, they are beating minmum wage. I'm not sure if the numbers are worse in the US but this really doesn't seem that bad. I think servers should be paid the normal minimum wage, but i doubt there are many servers that stay employed at the restaurant making less than $1/hr in tips.

  • Put that cost pressure on then invest heavily into public transit that does not rely on tires. If you have high frequency service (at least every 20 minutes, ideally closer to 5) then relying on a tram schedule isnt really a big deal. If the tram has priority at intersections, it is much easier to stay on schedule.

  • If the business owner is paying a sub minimum wage and banking on tips to make up for it, then it is the employer screwing a working class person, not a customer that doesn't tip. Most places don't have a big sign on the door stating "our staff relys on your tips you intend to come here." Most customers are clueless to what an employer is paying their employees, expecting a customer to know what places are sub minimum wage and which are not is a bit ridiculous.

  • I'd argue it isnt clickbait and is a fairly accurate title. Motorist killed as police respond. The motorist was hit while the police were responding. The title never claimed the motorist had anything to do with the bomb threat, that was the context for the police response. Typically when the headline is refering to someone involved with the crime, they use the term suspect. The fact they used motorist actually gave me a hint it was an unassociated party that was hit.

  • He is already premier, and I shudder at the thought of ford as PM. He would pave montreal back into the stone age by covering it with highways.

If I don't flee to Europe or another area to escape this ridiculous mismanagement and decades of set back to this province, I'll be headed to the montreal area because there is at least a shred of walkability, cycling and transit still there.

  • Private security footage could have caught him disposing, someone could have witnessess and grabbed another photo of him using his their cell phone. He could be worried about finger prints on the gun or other biological clues. And if a ghost gun is so untraceable, keeping it after a crime shouldn't be proof, because how do you prove it was this ghost gun used in the crime? He could claim he just keeps it for self defense or was interested in how far 3D printed tech has come

He could be planning another assassination or desire to keep the weapon for self defense purposes. I think you are downplaying the parannoia that would come with such a large scale manhunt accompanied with becoming an internet meme spreading your photo and awareness of your act over night. Paranoia makes you constantly think "but what if?" And that paranoia is even stronger in an extreme circumstance like this.

The fact is, we may never know why he kept it.

  • It is dumb because they are also ripping up existing bike lanes that have not impacted traffic and has benefitted the local economy. This is also just a blanket law so nearly every road in the province is subject to it.

It is dumb because a provincial government is over reaching into politics on a very local level that typically impacts local neighbourhoods, this kind of decision making should be up to the councilors, the people the local population elected to make these decisions.

  • He'd probably be ditching more than just that. He could be caught on a security camera disposing of it which could give further clues. He may also had no intention of disposal and intended to keep the firearm.

  • Maybe plotting how to dispose of it, perhaps extra paranoid with how much he blew up. Unfortunately all the memes of him probably helped spread the search for him. Not everyone who saw a meme agreed with his actions.

  • This law is really about "let me build a highway with no way for the public to stop me and no environment assement or environmental protection infrastructure." He needed the bike lanes bit to draw attention away from the highway parts and use the culture war to get more votes. Its those pesky cyclists causing traffic, not our ridiculous car dependancy.
