For example, I used to use generic eye drops. Then there were a bunch of recalls on eye drops made in India because they weren't kept sterile and people were getting eye infections. So now I make sure to only buy eye drops that are manufactured in countries with actual controls on health codes. It turns out that imposing that restriction elliminated all the generic options. I'm certainly not happy to be paying double for brand name pataday, but I don't care to mess with the chance of eye infections.
It's not a rescue mission. It was an already scheduled mission which is why it's 6 months long. Two of the originally scheduled crew got their seats bumped so the boeing capsule test asteonauts would have seats for a normal return. Wilmore and Wiliams could have returned in the other spacex capsule that was already up there in case of emergency. They were never stranded.
The bad flooding is because of how steep those areas are. Down in Florida, water takes a while to make its way into the creeks, streams, and rivers. The areas with the most extreme flooding is because entire mountainsides worth of rainfall drains in the span of a couple days.
Eastern TN and western NC also had a ton of rainfall from thunderstorms just before Helene so the ground was already saturated. For reference check out this rain gauge in Asheville.
The rain from Helene didn't really get to Western NC until the early hours of Friday the 27th. That gauge was already at 10 inches by that time. So really the storm before Helene brought more rain than Helene did. Either the thunderstorm or Helene alone would have been moderate, but manageable flash floods, but the two back to back was insane.
The trouble is that a fad doesn't have to be functional to be used by short-sighted trend chasers as a justification to make cuts. How many jobs did we see outsourced to India in a way that didn't even come close to matching the quality of the people laid off? The people who make the decision to replace jobs with ai systems will loudly declare success and move on to their next role before the long-term consequences are fully realized.
A smart tv without an internet connection is usually close enough to a dumb TV. It's not like your TV needs regular security updates so leaving it off your home network is fine.
As long as the earth-sun orbit stays close to 1 au, then ejecting the moon into it's own solar orbit wouldn't necessarily be world ending. There would probably be some aquatic life extinctions from the loss of tides, and some nocturnal species might be affected by the change in light levels.
The sun diameter is 1.4 million kilometers, and the earth-moon orbital radius is 0.38 million kilometers. So trying stick the sun between the earth and moon at the current orbital radius just makes the sun 1/333000th more massive.
I got a set of ten puzzles. There's three different sizes/piece counts. Each size uses a singular die. I ended up doing one puzzle on top of another and every piece was the same. Buying a set seems like a good way to get multiple prints cut from the same die if you want to intentionally do something like this.
Some of the online ordering services are sneaky and bake their fee into the prices of the items you order, so it's not even clear that you pay extra. My despise of that practice motivates me to call in my orders.
He was planning to retire 6 months ago, but the market hasn't been doing great and his brother in law had to borrow some money to deal with gambling debts.
