  • I simply work part time on purpose. I don't have my own place (flatmates) so we all split the COL. It's not truly freedom, but it feels a lot more free than when I worked full time. I usually have enough to save a little and also because of this I am able to travel a few times a year. But you have to be REALLY able to manage your finances to live like this. I have no credit card and prepay everything ahead of time. It leaves me with a lot more time to enjoy LIFE. and feel less constantly tired as well.

  • Also from the south here, living in California these days. And the part about everyone settling is so accurate. As for seeing the positives, I will say that this place went from being a not well known and somewhat poor community to being in the top 10 fastest growing cities after covid. So it's at least nice to see the care given to it from the state improving. And the childhood home memories are definitely something I hadn't thought of either until now. The fact that my memories here are both good AND bad. Thanks for the response, really made me think with this one!

  • Yep. Grew up around a lot of rural emptiness. luckily there is a reserve not too far away so there will always be some of that feeling, which I'm thankful for. Sorry to hear about your home town situation.

  • Hoping those visa complications work out so you're able to visit soon. Yeah, I definitely feel stuck between a dream and reality visiting here now. But it's at least nice to see some stuff again.

  • My current apartment definitely feels more like home now than the actual place I grew up in... it's very weird :(

  • Definitely this too. It kind of feels like the grave of a person who once was here.

  • Very well written and lots of truth in there, especially the end about seeing it with new eyes. Thanks for sharing!

  • never been diagnosed with anything but it honestly wouldn't shock me. ¯(ツ)_/¯

  • Hyperfixation on random topics. The other day I was so invested in the history of mobile phones that I stayed up until 2:30am by accident while researching useless info.

  • you can download an old APK on Android, or sideload on iOS. I have one with the early 2023 layout and one with the pre-2021 layout just because. none with the new update

  • This is absolutely amazing, the actual Reddit site is so buggy on mobile. half the time can't even get it to scroll or show more comments. this will circumvent the need for Reddit entirely when looking for specific or niche info. thanks for sharing!

  • I switched to the 2022 iPhone SE for this last year only for the EU to pull the usb-c thing toward apple (who of course requires the Apple certified cables now anyways so it solved nothing). and after that happened I know the writing is on the wall for this phone one day because of its design. I'm going to be using it until the very bitter end when not a single app is supported anymore. I will be a physical button warrior to the end.

  • Missed out on the elden ring hype last year and still haven't been able to pick it up, fingers crossed and good luck everyone!

recently I played bullet witch and enjoyed it quite a bit despite it's notorious reputation for its jankyness. something about it has a charm that the late 2000s really mastered aesthetically.

  • Every single day, maybe a few times a year I don't use it. Though because I have an iphone, my headphone jack is on an adapter. But still, I know for certain it's not something I can ever give up at this point, have tried the Bluetooth thing.

  • I still run an old app with the original logo and font.

  • honestly I think the opposite. from what a younger sibling has told me, old is new and the current trends in TikTok and stuff seem to be younger people wanting physical media, non flat design back, the old internet and etc. gives me hope at least.

  • I did this one time just to try cooking the hardboiled egg on my own and it wound up opening my interests to cooking and recipes. Since then I regularly cook and do meal preps / bento boxes :')

  • traveling abroad for the first time. pretty much my number 1 bucket list item

  • honestly it's replaced reddit for me in a good way, because it has just enough new content that I can check it before bed every day and scroll for a bit, but not enough to where I spend entire lunch breaks on it. sometimes I go days without even checking it. if anything it's made my relationship with my browser / phone healthier than reddit.
