  • I think the atomization of society shows that its not just a desire but that independence is a social pressure. "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps" is the air we breathe. Thats why business people like musk deny they got say, emerald mine money; the social pressure to seem self reliant is far greater than the social pressure to tell the truth

  • Many states have done things like that. the problem is for the feds its all defined in the constitution so getting an overwhelming majority to agree to limit power needs an overwhelming push.

Imo the best thing to do would be push for a constitutional amendment that creates an initiative system that fully bypasses congress.

  • Twitter was ad driven and was enshittifying before musk bought it, and sold because they were a public company.

Jay Graber will likely get bored and sell it off or monetize eventually but twitter is definitely not the model here.

  • Until there's overt advertising its unlikely to enshittify the normal way. That doesn't mean it won't, just that a different capital process is at work. Wikipedia has outlived most of "web2.0" because its funded by donations and run by volunteers.

  • The people who say this tend to forget that if you only take the "good things" from conservatism it ceases to be conservatism. The conservative ideology is garbage and only leads countries to a sort of destructive cannabalism.
