  • This is kinda what trump wants. If the government cant handle "online stuff" they can pitch privatization. It hurts more if tech megacorps get hacked. Though at this point I wou'd laugh if a bunch of internet nerds got the nuclear codes or locked up a bunch of satellites

  • "Stealth AI Startup"

Gotta say, couldn't pick a less sympathetic person for the screenshot.

I think the trump HB1 visa thing has put a nail in this coffin for people in the tech industry. You have to compete with people who get paid 40% less and will be deported if they take a day off. If they made it so visas required prevailing wages and had better protections it would be less of a problem..

Not to mention programming is easily outsourced so wages heavily depend on things like relative education costs. All of which are likely to be less favorable while the country is being dismantled by an oligarch.

  • I think the atomization of society shows that its not just a desire but that independence is a social pressure. "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps" is the air we breathe. Thats why business people like musk deny they got say, emerald mine money; the social pressure to seem self reliant is far greater than the social pressure to tell the truth

  • Many states have done things like that. the problem is for the feds its all defined in the constitution so getting an overwhelming majority to agree to limit power needs an overwhelming push.

Imo the best thing to do would be push for a constitutional amendment that creates an initiative system that fully bypasses congress.
