  • wasn’t there some billionaire that ran for president, spent hundreds of millions and got like <1% of the vote?

  • According to a lengthy report by the New York Times, Trump’s statement that he would take as long as two weeks to decide on whether to strike Iran — because of a “substantial” chance for diplomacy — was always merely a calculated misdirection. At around 5 p.m. on Friday June 20, just a few hours after the E3 talks in Geneva concluded, Trump ordered the bombers into the air, the newspaper reported.

    https://www.politico.eu/article/we-arent-worthless-europe-irrelevance-middle-east-israel-iran/

It's pretty clear the EU is too bloated governance wise to quickly respond to just about anything

  • france was right all along

  • where a local doctor had refused to treat an Aboriginal child without upfront payment

    I wonder why he'd do that...🙄

“So Eric and I got that doctor struck off the register.”

That's really good now instead of not being able to help 1 person he can't help any, and it's not like there's a shortage of doctors or anything in regional Australia

GP shortage contributing to 'bidding war' as regional towns struggle to attract doctors

    Oh... lady sounds insufferable

  • why do you ask this question knowing anyone who answers you will get a ban?

  • oh this is just their latest excuse to crack down on their own citizens

for more history see everything after women life freedom protests

if you’re not a fan of seeing men dangling from the back of tow trucks don’t look

  • Aboriginal Australian people long lived over the area of Jervis Bay.[9] The area underwent significant change 18,000 to 7,500 years ago when the sea level rose, displacing inhabitants of previously coastal areas, resulting in dramatic population redistribution.

So they are used to climate change already?

  • no work friday would turn into more work monday so yeah... i work

  • that sounds about right for Iran, they've been saying this for years

IRGC: ISRAEL YOU BETTER NOT HURT US OR WE'LL KILL MORE OF OUR OWN CITIZENS!!!1

  • Senator Payman later apologised for her comments that suggested Iran was an "incredible place" for women.

    lol ouch

  • China also continues to increase coal generation by more than renewables.

    I don't believe this:

    https://ember-energy.org/countries-and-regions/china/

In 2024, China approved 66.7GW of new coal-fired capacity, started construction on 94.5GW of coal power projects

Even if you add these 2 together and pretend they were finished the same year it's not even close to:

China’s renewable energy sector made remarkable progress in 2024, adding 356 gigawatts (GW) of wind and solar capacity

    https://theasialive.com/chinas-energy-production-coal-and-renewables-locked-in-competition-amid-clean-energy-boom/2025/02/14/

They have missed every single renewable target and goal they’re set.

I don't believe this is true either unless you are referring to some other targets?

In 2020, China set a goal to install at least 1,200 gigawatts (GW) of solar and wind power by 2030. By the end of 2024, China had already surpassed this target, reaching this milestone 6 years ahead of schedule. This was made possible by aggressive investments, government policies, and a surge in solar and wind installations.

China’s solar capacity grew by an incredible 45.2% in 2024, adding 277 GW. Wind capacity also saw a strong increase of 18%, with an additional 80 GW installed. Overall, total power generation capacity rose by 14.6% in 2024, driven mainly by renewables.

    https://carboncredits.com/chinas-renewable-energy-boom-a-record-breaking-shift-or-still-chained-to-coal/

China is only %27 renewables while the EU is 47%.

Don't worry, just like everything else I'm sure that will flip in the future

Europe has plenty of money apparently to suddenly:

NATO leaders on Wednesday confirmed their commitment to more than double defence spending by 2035 banding words like "crucial", "momentous" and "quantum leap"

    https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/2025/06/25/defence-spend-to-5-of-gdp-ukraine-russia-the-key-takeaways-from-the-nato-summit

Just why does it take an emergency to make some proper progress:

Global energy storage owner-operator BW ESS and Spanish energy storage developer Ibersun say a new joint venture is intended to build eight four-hour battery projects across the country, with a combined capacity of 2.2 GW, 8.8 GWh.

    https://reneweconomy.com.au/no-time-to-waste-huge-big-battery-plans-unveiled-for-spain-as-accusations-traded-over-blackout/

Where will the batteries be made I wonder?

On top of this energy prices in the EU are ridiculous and for some reason they still can't get off the gas, which leads to an unreal point of France giving more money to Russia for gas than in aid to Ukraine, so they have high energy prices and they're funding Russia's invasion of Ukraine and their companies and manufacturing are leaving them... to go to China...

    https://aussie.zone/comment/17361559

But I appreciate your scepticism (I gave your post an upvote because China does sometimes get a little bit too much credit), they are the worlds top producer of CO2 by FAR but I do want to address

    Greenwashing

This is something I've wanted for a while:

It requires EU importers to pay a levy corresponding to the embedded carbon emissions in 303 emission-intensive products

    https://www.oecd.org/en/publications/what-to-expect-from-the-eu-carbon-border-adjustment-mechanism_719d2ff9-en.html

I've long disliked that places like the EU and the rest of the west can export their dirty manufacturing over to China where companies take advantage of lax or no environmental regulations, it's a false economy and makes the west look a whole lot greener and cleaner than it would if we were manufacturing what we used back at home

edit: boy I sure do love to procrastinate and talk about energy and co2 instead of studying :|

  • 🤔 it was made into fancy graphs by the guy on Bluesky but the data was from ember-energy.org who are well known for supplying renewable stats

  • Good news for those on the bottom income line, the minimum wage will increase by 3.5%, to $948 per week or $24.95 per hour, based on a 38-hour work week. The changes are expected to impact 2.6 million and will apply from the first full pay after July 1.

    😲

  • I don’t think this article addresses the elephant in the room:

Yes, Tasmania relies significantly on federal support as part of its state revenue. In the 2025-26 budget, federal government funding is a major component, contributing approximately $2.545 billion to Tasmania’s total revenue of about $9.45 billion, alongside GST revenue of $3.778 billion (which itself is federal revenue distributed to states). This means federal funding and GST together make up nearly two-thirds of the state’s revenue base, underscoring Tasmania’s reliance on federal transfers to fund its services and infrastructure.

  • The hackers exploited CVE-2023-20198 to retrieve running configuration files from the devices and modified at least one of the files to create a GRE tunnel allowing traffic collection from the network the devices were connected to.

tbf they've been patched for ages and/or you can just turn the http web interface off, it's 2 lines of config that takes 30 seconds to apply

We were alerted on the day and had a fix rolled out by end of day on hundreds of routers, this is a bit embarrassing for the canadian telcom tbh

  • I don’t know, just look around, might be a bit tough now that Israel has probably started WW3 of late.

This is just middle eastern war #9082131

You (I assume you're American) have been there for a very very long time:

Die Anstalt - 23.09.2014 ISIS and the Middle east explained (English Subtitles)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57fMqUl-sng

Europe has no intention of stepping up, mainly because they are busy with Russia but because they support what's going on:

Germany's chancellor defended Israel's attacks on Iran, saying it was 'dirty work Israel is doing for all of us'

    https://www.dw.com/en/germanys-merz-says-israel-doing-dirty-work-for-us-in-iran/live-72939104

Funnily enough from that same page:

'Mixed feelings' in Iran — journalist Gilda Sahebi

They may be hoping that this may be the end of the regime, but although the regime is obviously weak, it is still as repressive as ever.

    Wow just like Hamas!

btw I won't be participating in any pro-Iran protests I assume you're already quickly drawing up signs to go to

must be hard being a zionist enthusiast these days, especially with all these yucky librols all around

Since the Tiktok crowd of virtue signallers moved in yeah, I'm waiting for them to move onto whatever justice cause Gretel Hamburger decides to move on to next

Also I am left wing or a liberal as you'd say in America

I am a huge proponent of the fight against climate change (I am personally climate positive, you can also support me here, at the moment I am donating to Ukraine but will be back soon), I am also in favour of gender equality, science, education, I am atheist, detest religion, particularly Islam, and I am infuriated you elected Trump a second time, I still cannot believe it

But, just like Palestine and Hamas, I won't be talking about how sorry I feel for you all or attending any anti-Trump protests, not my fault America elected an idiot, and not my fault Hamas are a bunch of genocidal fuckheads that are getting their heads kicked in

  • This was true years ago but the US has been the #1 producer of oil for a few years now

  • leave it for when we’ll be talking about Hamas shittery

    When is that exactly?

because we don’t take kindly to zionists.

Just fyi this is the least intimidating threat of all time

I've been on internet forums for 20 years, I am aware that this place is a toxic leftist hellhole, you don't need to remind me

  • Two wrongs does not make one right.

If Hamas wants to fight the IDF without the involvement of Hosptials, Schools, and old peoples homes it is free to fight in the open battlefield, it had plenty of support from Iran, plenty of weapons, plenty of Islamic Jihadi's who WANT to die for Islam, it was more than capable of doing this but instead it chose to invade and quickly slaughter as many innocent civilians as it could as quickly as it could

On top of this Hamas was voted in by Palestinians knowing full well what they wanted to do AND had popular support well up until only a few months ago

    Understanding Hamas’s Genocidal Ideology

A close read of Hamas’s founding documents clearly shows its intentions.

    https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2023/10/hamas-covenant-israel-attack-war-genocide/675602/

You can turn around and cry when you're losing all you want but reality speaks for itself, Palestine wasn't innocent here, if Ukraine had been busy shooting rockets into Russia, had been kidnapping Russians and stabbing them to death, had co-ordinated with terrorist states like Iran to antagonise the shit out of Russia support for them would be 50/50 at best

You're free to walk down the street in outrage at the Taliban's treatment of Afghani women or the massacres on the Tutisi's or the massacres across the Sahel or the treatment of Russians who don't want to join the army, just don't expect many people to be there

The citizens of Palestine got what they voted for and so did the Israeli's

I hate that 2/3 of my fellow citizens support this, either directly or or tacitly by choosing not to vote.

    https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/47297685

    And so did the Americans
