  • For the main streaming services, I had Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+.

I cancelled Netflix back when they announced a price hike in early 2021? I'd been a customer since 2006.

Disney+ I cancelled a few months ago, but the plan goes through November, so we still have it technically. Not planning to renew.

Prime will get renewed, but I don't subscribe to it specifically for streaming, it's just included in the package.

For non-traditional streaming services, I still have a number of subscriptions on Twitch and with Subtember, I've gotten a bunch of 6 month subs to my favorite creators. Also given out gift subs to my favorite creators.

I also subscribe to Dropout and while my subscription is expiring in the next few months, I'll certainly renew it for another year when I have time to binge Dimension 20 again.

I really don't have any interest in streaming services that give traditional options anymore. Even before I cancelled Netflix, I could look in my recent connection history where it shows the five most recent logins and see timestamps going back 2+ years. I transitioned away from that kind of content a long time ago.

  • Mostly it's that everything on phones/tablets/touch screens is an app. You don't pick where to install it. You don't need to look up save files.

Some of them are getting to college without ever needing to go through a file directory, so they don't necessarily even have the basics to troubleshoot.

  • I'm probably just old, but there's more than one case of an Internet map telling folks to turn somewhere that there was no where to go because the maps aren't updated. I also used to used the old fashioned paper maps before MapQuest and while those were usually fine, they also don't help in cases of road closures or construction changes.

Whoever's responsibile for the road itself (local municipality or state) should have had it blocked off.

the fact that Google does not pay attention when users notify them about dangerous road conditions in their maps is a serious problem,

Again, as someone who grew up using paper maps, this is such a bizarre statement. It's cool that map companies offer things like speed trap warnings, but I frequently get warnings about stuff and there's nothing there. You still can't fully trust what the system is telling you. It's just a tool.

  • Even aside from its cartoonish style and stories, the characters in Lower Decks are too high ranking and too involved. They're ensigns, and they often interact with the captain. They're almost never in the dark about what's happening, and often they're instigating things.

  • American. I normally drink my tea black, but milk is nice with earl grey on occasion.

And typically, the milk isn't hot. You pour it in already steeped tea, like you would if you drank coffee with cream.

That said, I do occasionally steep my earl grey entirely in steamed milk and add a little vanilla and it's just a nice treat. But I'm not looking for a bitter flavor at that point either.

Honestly, I thought putting milk & sugar in your tea was bonkers until I tried it from my British friends. It works with traditional English teas, but not really with American/orange pekoe teas.

There are some English teas that are so bitter that they need sugar in order to be palatable.

  • Letterman owned his production company and negotiated an interim contract with WGA so his writers could continue to work.

Conan, Stewart, & Colbert had their hands forced by their networks threatening to fire their staff if they didn't return. Those three paid their staff out of pocket during the time worked during the strike. Conversely, Leno told his staff they were guaranteed the money, then NBC laid off 80 of them without pay and as far as I can tell, he didn't pay those folks and some of them weren't scheduled to return after the strike was over.

There was also a writers strike in 1988 where Letterman and Carson got permission from WGA to continue without writers.

All of this stuff made the news, but maybe it just wasn't of interest to you in those days.

  • I'm sure they just mean you can use your actual government issued identification card to verify your identity, but the US has a form of identification called REAL ID that we are slowly being required to be compliant with.

  • Not the person you responded to, but yeah, I hear a voice as an inner monologue. It's just my voice though... or rather, how I hear my voice when I talk. I don't have other voices in my head as a general monologue.

Like, I can think of other voices and what they sound like, but it's very much not 'me', if that makes sense.
