  • Oh fuck it. I think I'll just stop using Lemmy when this instance shuts down. This is the part of the fediverse that really sucks. All the comments, saved posts etc are gone because why? A couple of guys couldn't handle a few troll messages? Sorry, if we want an independent site, away from the hands of venture capitalists, you're gonna have to tough it out and deal with a few nasty messages.

  • I mean why buy shares of reddit? What is it doing? It's alienating users.

Literally every single change reddit has done in the past few years has angered the user base, and the bot accounts increase day by day. Go to any niche subreddit, like one for a movie series, show, video game, etc. You will see a ton of "what's your opinion of X or Y?" And it's always such a weird choice of words, and it's clearly just a bot farming engagement to inflate numbers to shareholders.

I still use reddit, but I never post or comment. I strictly do that on one of my Lemmy accounts. And every few months, something will happen to make the experience worse. Like now, the frontpage "hot" sorting is broken. Just a bunch of zero up vote posts on weird subreddits I forgot I was subscribed to. Now I can't really get the news like I used to on reddit. It's broken, and there is tall that it's a result of Elon meeting with spez to talk about moderating the surge of Elon/Teslur hate.

Fuck reddit, more niche communities need to come over here, because I'm so tired of having to go through reddit to fine things I'm interested in.

  • Mastodon is dead, unusable, and left a bad taste in the public's mouth. The fediverse is good for some things. But a miroblogging site where people need news fast? No.

Bluesky has already become the replacement for Twitter, and it's off to a great start. I tried mastodon, I had 3 accounts, I used it as much as I could, but as soon as I got an invite for bluesky, I stopped using it. There is no content I wish to see on mastodon.

  • This looks bad. You can't just slap new tech on a game and expect it to be great. Half Life 2 is stylized a certain way, based on the tech available at the time. This makes the game look... Off... Not a fan of RTX remakes, they always look like this. Bland, flat, no soul.

  • Lemmy world is the worst instance. You guys are huge libs and it's embarrassing. Get a life, spend your energy on something productive other than shitting on people on the left, while right wingers staged a coup, and are going to start cracking down on everyone's rights. "First they came for the communists...."

  • While you can't follow hashtags you can follow "topics" like movies, tech, etc. They should do a better job of explaining how to use that feature though.

As for pixelfed, I'd love to use it. But the only use I have for Instagram is following local bands. Although there is a new site that's popped up recently that's like Instagram with a forum but only for bands and musicians to communicate with their local scenes. Very cool, old Internet kind of feel to it.

  • As a former mastodon believer, Bluesky is so much better. I'm sorry but the kind of content I wanted on mastodon was never there. Bluesky feels good. Things change, for sure. For now though? This is the best we have for a replacement for Twitter.
