  • I did read that there were some input issues with the d-pads not working, but that was also 2 years ago so it could've been fixed by now.

    So you're right, I should!

Pretty sure I've got an old drive around somewhere that I could toss it on.

  • While I pretty much agree, I can definitely think of a few sporadic times doing sysadmin where things have gone so significantly wrong that an enforced sanity-check on every sudo command would have been appreciated.

  • I really want to put Linux on my gaming PC, but I'm doubtful I can get my Rift S working on there. :/

Apparently there is an openxr driver for it, though, so I suppose I should at least give it a shot.

There's absolutely no way I'm going to win11, though.

  • "Frites" is a portmanteau of the words "French" and "frites", so it's still just "frites".

Incidentally, when translating the word "frites" to English, you can't be certain of how many instances of the word "French" you need to add, and the only way to be certain is to ask the original author. This has led to many difficulties in translating posthumous works.

  • though we would need a lot of community work for parity with Discord

Not sure if it was FUD or not, so please treat this as an unsubstantiated rumour, but I recall another lemming telling me that Matrix was quite insular and not very accepting of outside code contributions.

So if that's true, it could be a spanner in the gears.

  • Nah, you read me right. I'm absolutely ragging on Ontario beer, but ESPECIALLY so on LCBO.

You're right, there are a few nice beers here and there. The pony sours are very nice. Left-field has some great stuff. Tooth and nail has had some fantastic colab beers, and their standard lineup is quite passable. But where are our Belgian style ales? Our west-coast style IPAs? Where are the Baltic porters and imperial stouts? I want a full bodied malty IPA. I want a double IPA with some seriously lacto funky notes, not just "this baby can fit so much hops".

We're just SO unadventurous, and I think a lot of it has to do with LCBO. I used to be able to get all that stuff, but selection has shrunk and shrunk.

Make Ontario craft work for their spot on the shelf. Too much protectionism is bad for consumers.

  • The problem is that performant screenshare (to multiple users) more or less requires infrastructure. That requires money, and it's impossible to compete on price with services that have the VC-enshitification model.

You can get around this in a few ways, but they're all tradeoffs that are in some way or other worse than discord.

    • P2P - sacrifice latency, reliability
    • direct multi-stream - sacrifice PC performance and/or bitrate
    • paid infrastructure - sacrifice money
  • Shouldn't be too hard to compete with Ontario brewers. We seem to only be able to make the same 3 or 4 craft beers in different packaging.

We've been sheltered from interprovincial competition, and our products have suffered for it.
