  • Oddly enough the US makes it back in many ways as it's being fulfilled by US military contractors. So it's not as much of a loss financially as it seems. It's also geopolitically a good cause as bolstering support in Europe has netted a ton of contracts Russia was fulfilling for gas and coal. Ukraine is also a US ally and likely future member of both the EU and NATO, so it makes sense to support them when invaded for absolutely no rhyme or reason by pretty much the most consistent adversary of the US throughout modern history. But I'm sure whatever you said makes sense too.

  • When Android does the same thing but the article calls out Apple specifically. It was a thing constantly on Reddit, but why wouldn't we expect it here too? Fanboys of Apple are happy to peddle their wares everywhere.

  • Because it is. Apple does this shit all time and it's enfuriating. Especially considering Android offers exactly the same feature so there's no "thanking" a brand when both major platforms do this. People just lap it up though.

  • Virtually every company public and private in the US use Gmail or Outlook. Interesting that your circle is using alternatives but you're still very much an outlier. Like to an extreme that's very surprising to hear. For personal use nearly 90%+ of global market share splits between Gmail and Apple with nearly 60% of email in the US being Gmail based and Apple holding most of the rest.

  • I think the AI reporting is actually the more bland and uniform stuff. It's cheesy as hell, and I think that's one of the things that suggest to me that it was written by a person. I'm not a fan of this particular style personally, especially around serious topics, but it's at least informative and I can see why plenty of people might enjoy reading it.

  • I mean it sounds a heck of a lot more like he doesn't want to create any room for false accusations. I know professors who follow this logic and don't hold private meetings with any students primary out of protection of themselves from being accused of something. If you're a politician with enemies I can at least see the logic to some extent.

  • Log off social media for a bit there. Things aren't great out there, but I'm being absolutely sincere that this environment is a negative feedback loop that makes it out to be even worse. We all need to step away from time to time. Come back in a week we will all still be here.

  • What's funnier is it was already dying. It hasn't made any actual positive revenue since 2019 and then Musk dumped another $44B in debt on top of it. It really never had a chance and I think his original bid was either a troll he never intended to follow through with, or he was banking on leveraging all the blockchain and NFT stuff that recently also shit the bed. Either way, he's fucked himself out of at least a small chunk of his fortune. Well, at least until the rest of the market catches Tesla and their hyper inflated market cap finally also goes sideways.
