  • During the pandemic, when everything was shut down, sports were canceled. When asked what they missed most about watching sports a majority of men responded that they missed sharing the experience with their fathers and children.

I think that one reason for the popularity of sports, especially among men, is that it serves as a surrogate emotional bond for people that may have difficulty sharing their feelings ... or maybe they just enjoyed the bonding experience.

If esports can provide a similar experience, then maybe it can be as popular, but there is more there than just the sport.

  • The details of the settlement reached on Monday with Massachusetts-based Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc have not been made public.

For those looking for the terms of the settlement.

  • The "free speech absolutist" strikes again to silence speach he personally doesn't like.

  • Well crap. Food prices were what I was primarily thinking about.

    Thanks for the answer.

  • I would think magnets.

They used in dynamos to generate electricity, in motors to convert electricity into mechanical energy, they are used to hold items together, plus I'm sure many more technical use cases that I am not aware of.

  • I would think that providing an echo chamber for an existing belief would make somebody less inclined to consider alternative view points. Further, I would suspect social media could sway people still undecided on issues. We've already seen reports on how Facebook deliberately manipulated the feeds for certain people to encourage either positive or negative emotional responses to a subject.

Couldn't those impacts be seen as fueling division and polarization?

  • Can somebody tell me if that mean prices will continue to increase but at a slower rate, or that prices will start to come back down?

  • "non-human" is not the same as "non-terrestrial". We've shot a lot of non-human "biological material" into space.

    • Playing a musical instrument:Easier to learn when young and improves brain elasticity.
    • Cooking:Encourages healthier eating habits, decreases frequency on costly meals out, and makes learning to cook new things less intimidating.
    • Fixing things / building things:Once you start taking things apart or putting them together (doesn't really matter what) it increases the confidence of being able to do your own repairs / maintenance instead of paying others to do it.
  • When all your stress and worries melt away.

  • Thanks! Much better results with that.

As a Brave user, I'd like to know if I need to shop around for a new browser.

    • "brave privacy mismanagement"
    • "brave browser sharing data"
    • "brave browser security concerns"

What I have gotten is a link to a reddit post that I did not click on, some articles about managing privacy settings in the Brave browser, a piece on how Brave accuses Google of sharing / selling data, and a collection of "what is Brave" type articles.

  • What sort of issues have you been having? I use Lemmy in Brave and aside from wishing that certain buttons were easier to access, I have not had any significant issues since the 0.18 update.

  • Can you provide some examples? An initial search did not turn up any privacy complaints, so I am hoping for either some better search terms or an article on their mishandling of data.

  • Did I miss the part about customer satisfaction? Guy could have just moved from solving customer issues in 2 hours to aggravating and loosing customers in under 2 minutes.

  • Why was this cross-posted to bisexual?

  • Yeah 🙁 Sadly we had no ham, bacon, or any other pork products in the house.

  • Huh, I never thought the Lemmy mascot being anything but lemmings, but a lemur works well.

  • How about something resembling a stained glass scene. Here's some AI generated concepts.
