  • None of my business of course, but the relationship seems a bit unbalanced? You seem to be covering his expenses (and his arse)...what does he contribute, is he working? I used to be the major breadwinner in our 24 year relationship, but things took a turn about 10 years ago and, because of things, now I'm not. There's not a day when I don't think about that, and I do everything I can to be a worthy contributor to the household even if not financially.

  • Oh bugger, I'm supposed to walk to Mordi station to collect Mrs_Owl's car (she's kicking on with team drinks after work) and then run a few errands. I better get a wriggle on before the rain hits. Thanks for the heads up!

  • TIL of the 4th Earl of Sandwich (via this thread). This excerpt from his Wikipedia page sounds like someone Aussies will be familiar with:

Sandwich retired in 1782. Despite holding a number of important posts during his career, Sandwich's incompetence and corruption were legendary, inspiring the saying: "Seldom has any man held so many offices and accomplished so little."

    Hi ScoMo!

  • So far we have resisted putting the electric blanket on the bed, but today might be the day it happens

  • they are kind and caring and insightful regarding the pressures endured by working class men

Joe's net worth is $120m and Jordan $8m. Not really sure that they care about the working class, other than to elicit Patreon donations from them.

You're right tho, they are intelligent people, they have both worked out that there is a cohort of disenfranchised young men (always has been) that, if communicated to in a certain way, can be used to build their audience. Bigger audience = more ad revenue, books and speaking tours.

So working class men are being told by these millionaires that traditional masculinity is in decline, that women have too much power these days, and minority interests threaten their very existence. LGBTQ, BLM, Equal Rights are all out to get the traditional 'man'. It's nonsense. These movements have been around for decades in one form or another, we just live in a time when some people can amplify and monetise the myth.

  • Fascinating read, thanks for the link. I've not really engaged with any JP content, but I've heard enough about him to know to avoid it.

  • I have the XM3s in-ear and I love them. That something so small can be so effective at noise-cancelling is amazing. They came with various sizes of tips and it was trial and error to find the pair that fitted and stayed in place.

  • I'm surprised the No pamphlet was allowed to include those three links...surely that's just a sneaky way for them to circumvent the 2000 word limit?

  • she loved the mitt on one side of her body… then suddenly decided it was not trustworthy

This happened with one of ours. On closer inspection it turns out that she had a tiny scratch on one side that the mitt must have caught. She loves the mitt on all sides now since that healed up,

  • I too like banherts! It is a good tune but nobody remembers the words in a singalong. Mack, aka Mark Morrison, who was from the city next to where I lived around that time, has a dubious record (pun intended). Has also has various run-ins with the law.

  • A bit late/early to be canvassing opinions, but has anyone been to Frankston Brewhouse? We've done all the local breweries around Mordi and Braeside so thinking of checking it out tomorrow. Cheers.

E: Great place, they've put a lot of effort into the decor and general vibe. It's clean, it's bright, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the beers and food. The music volume level was perfect, both in-house and when the solo and his guitar came on at 2pm. Rec.

  • I think I got to the cold tap quickly enough to avoid any damage, still stings tho. On the plus side, I have no fingerprints on 3 out of 5 digits - what should I do with this superpower?

  • Holy shit, that sounds awful. Glad you're healed.

We have an unwritten rule in the house that anything in the kitchen that's hot from the oven gets a towel or mitt thrown over it, but I should have known better than to assume. All good now.

  • lol...I gave it a good run for sure

  • Owwwwwwwwww! Without thinking, I just picked up a cast iron Creuset lid that had come straight from the hot oven. I'm an idiot.

  • Yeah, it was SpecSavers, and credit to them for offering the hearing test, but the taxpayer will be paying for this somehow.
