  • Both of the Joel Schumacher films are fun if you don't take them seriously. They're not perfect by any means, but I'll throw them on every few years and have a good time. I can't even remember the last time I watched the Burton films, besides clips of "Love that Joker"

  • I've mainly been an Indie gamer since 2012 or so. My last gaming build is almost 7 years old, but I think the last AAA game I played was during lockdown and that was just because it was a way to hang with friends. At this point I just play indie ports on my phone.

Funny enough, after going through my Steam recently played, the last AAA game I enjoyed was Nier.

  • The first house our offer was accepted on had a large tree (the biggest tree I ever saw IRL besides some state parks) and had a credit to get it removed. 3 days after our offer was accepted a big storm came through and a branch fell, destroying the roof on the back half. We went through with the inspection because they told us insurance was replacing it, but we walked into a house with water going from the roof to the basement. There was even water pooling in the breaker box. We mentioned everything we found to them and they just said "well our neighbor is the contractor and he can do the roof and some of the walls. If you guys want to talk to insurance or find another contractor that's fine". We backed out after that.

Edit: There were multiple broken struts in the roof and they "didn't know about" and said the neighbor could fix them. We looked up the neighbor and he's just some guy with an LLC doing handy work. Nothing against that but when it comes to structural work, I would want an artitect or engineer to take a look, not some handyman who can "fix it" while missing a lot of the damage our inspector found.

  • Your latest house is pretty much what I am expecting as a FTHB. Permits have been my main concern after some quick searches. There's not a lot of updates made in recent years to the place that would require them, but who knows what was done that wasn't visible during inspection. I know it should be ok, but I never had to deal with this before so it's just another thing added to the list.

  • My grandpa was a painter for 45 years and already was asking us what we want to do. Guess we need to figure that out faster

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

When do you finally calm down after buying a house?

  • Its whatever you want it to be. The only limit is yourself.

  • Is there a good 2nd hand market beside FB now? We are buying our first house and will be needing some stuff once we move in. My account is long gone and my wife's is deactivated, close to closing it out. We have some good antique and thrifts around us, but my SIL gets killer deals on FB market.

  • Same thing applies to Chihuahuas

  • Just be careful it doesn't get bent

  • Late response now that I have some more money to work with but thanks! Tbh most of my tools are harbor freight and I don't think I need anything else for my usecase. Grandpa bought a dewalt set as he's tearing his deck down to build a pavilion. He told me to stop buying stuff and handed me a 70s craftsman tool box filled with most stuff I need and said to just use his power tools

  • Everyone is 1 of the 10000. Even the people who have to look up what being 1 of the 10000 means

  • I know I'm not the standard pokemon fan, but showdown still exists if you just like to battle. The in-game gameplay of pokemon has always been a little lackluster to me and I don't like VGC/doubles.

ROM hacks can be fun, and I have done some self imposed challenge runs. I can't see myself finishing any of the Prof oak challenges I did without emu speedup.

  • I find family guy clips with a slime squishing video underneath to be better for readability

  • Thank you for reminding me of the poet laureate of the west. Now I'll have "Vampire, vampire with teeth as sharp as barbed wire" stuck in my head again after a few years free from it.
