I have used both as Ubuntu flavours when I needed a lighter desktop on older hardware. XFCE was absolutely solid, worked and brought new life to the hardware. But, I wanted just a little more pizazz so, I moved to Mate. It was just as quick, felt a bit more modern but it wasn't as rock solid as XFCE.
XFCE is perfect for stability. Mate is more modern but younger so maybe not as solid.
It's been a while since I took either out for a spin though. Time to fire up the VirtualBox I suppose.
Kubuntu 24.04 because it's a solid desktop and I have nothing against Snap. If it works then I don't care if it's a deb flat or snap. p
PPAs were fun and exciting but I broke my system more than once with them back 10 years.
The aquarium is amazing, wish we had budgeted more time for it. The facility it is at has a whole days worth of activity there.
The Olive Mill is a pretty good pace to check out as well, specially if you like olive oil.
I wanted to go, but didn't have time to visit Heard Museum.
Ha, our forks had to scooch out of the way for the picture.
