  • It's interesting that people try to explain this away with all kinds of retroactive in-universe technobabble. I mean, I enjoy Star Wars just as much as the next guy but it's abundantly clear that SW wasn't meant to be investigated at this level. It's space mythology, not hard science fiction. And that's fine! We can have fun asking things like "Why is the Outer Rim considered a backwater if it only takes a few hours to get from galactic center to the rim?" and we don't really have to stress about answers to those things as fans. Edit: Or we can if that's what fans enjoy doing, but it just isn't my thing and I think that's ok too

  • The Millennium Falcon would destroy the Enterprise somehow. Then Kirk and crew would be stranded on a planet until they find a way to get aboard and commandeer the Falcon. Ultimately they would use it to go back in time and save the whales or something

  • Yeah tbh I think people totally misunderstand algorithms. I mean, hot is driven by an algorithm, as are the other sort methods, too, albeit simple algorithms. What we really want to avoid are profit-driven and invasive algorithms. But algorithms to boost discoverability for small communities could be really beneficial

  • Probably due to the relatively small user base, it just isn't as diverse as some websites. But, even reddit had the issue of the front page being flooded with political posts from one perspective. So as nice as it would be not to, lemmy is probably going to be the same way. It just might highlight a slightly different perspective from reddit

  • I'd recommend deciding what you're looking for in a VPN, then using r/VPN's comparison guide to find which one suits your wants.

Is this the best method? Idk, but it's what I did and I'm pretty satisfied. I decided that the most important factors to me were port-forwarding, price, speed, leak protection, and encryption - basically in that order. Using that criteria I settled on AirVPN, and I have no complaints so far (one month in).

Some people care more about ethics, or ownership, or what have you. So what you think is the best VPN will depend on your needs. There's no perfect VPN anymore, imo

Edit: As others have pointed out, some VPNs also come in optional packages. Ones such as Proton. That's something else to consider if you're in the market for stuff like antivirus or secure email

  • You really should do more research, how cunt is perceived varies by country and culture. Your worldview is not total. "You lot" continues to make me laugh. You resort to identity assumptions more than a republican. Just as zealous too.

  • Also just the dogmatism and zealousness. Like good grief dude, people aren't going to conform to your worldview 100%, just like you aren't going to conform to theirs.

But hey, what do I know, all I did was recreate an ironic humor community because I'm ableist and homophobic. I certainly haven't been moderating to keep the good parts and leave the bad behind on reddit /s

  • No no, there was a test. They provided a list of all the things that MLs hate and don't want people doing (took me days to reach the bottom) and we had to figure out how to do all of them. Because we're evil. Literally Hitler. Oh and also none of us can read.

I'm sorry we can't be Holy like you guys. You truly are a penitent congregation. Except I'm not sorry. Because I'm so evil
