  • How often do you need your seatbelt? Should you still wear it anyway? And there are situations when wearing a seatbelt can kill you where you would survive without it.

The idea is the same with cops. A properly trained cop carying a weapon all the time would be safer overall by being able to react to violent situations while not posing a threat in non-violent ones. The issue is how incredibly undertrained most US cops are.

And yes, if they are not sufficiently trained, they should not carry a gun period. Not in their car, not anywhere.

  • Seems to me like it would make more sense to want the cases to go simultaneously since the civil case can use any evidence and admissions from the criminal case.

If they are tried at the same time, there is a chence that would not work because of deadlines to submit evidence.

I have no idea what that argument is supposed to be.

  • Suprise, not all nations are the same. But hey, if the cops agree or you can find replacement cops for those that don't, then go for it.

It is just funy to me that people have so many ideas how cops could do their jobs better, and hate on them but refuse to actually become cops and put it in practice.

  • Well, I am not from the US, so maybe my perception is wrong. Or maybe you have a selection bias for some reason, e.g. living in a safe are.

Either way, if enough cops are ok with it then go ahead, and have them not carry firearms. No issue then.

  • I feel like "so easy to implement" still understates it. It is literally the default option: don't crate and enfore a dumb rule. They have to go out of their way to make their product shittier.

Also, you should not buy an apple product, if for no other reason, than because they can just change their mind at any time. As long as the appstore is the only way to install apps, you have no control over your own device.

  • In this case, it kills unproductive jobs. Payroll people are necessary but at the end of the day, they don't produce anything you would want to buy. This means that if you keep more administrative jobds than you need, there will be fewer actuall things to go around. Hence everyone will be poorer on average (or realistically speaking, the rich will be poorer in the current system, but that is a different issue).

Anyway, keeping unproductive jobds to reduce unenployment is a dumb idea and is one of the main reason why communism sucked so much.

  • As a young adult in Europe (the place where walking and biking safely is possible), my rules were:

    1. Rent apartment close to work
    2. Don't need car and I still commute to work faster then my collegues

I am entirely convinced US cities are designed by the car lobby.

  • Yep, which is why you can't annul 2A by saying there is some small reason to not have them everywhere.

If you want to repeal the 2A, pass a new ammendment. Of course you can't because most people are not irrationally scared of guns.
