  • That's great for you then!

My comment is just a reply to the original comment that someone said it was laughable that reviewers complained about the lack of story which I think is just oblivious/attempts to excuse the developer for making a certain type of game. Again, the industry has evolved to expect certain things so when it's not there it's a valid complaint and reason why this game doesn't live up to expectations.

But it's completely valid for people to just want an action game or movie without a story so if that floats your boat then great.

  • Well that's the point right? It's been 10 years. A lot has changed in games and people expect more. That's reflected in why the game has reviewed ok, but for a FromSoftware game it's kinda done pretty poorly. This isn't going to win any game of the year awards and they're demonstrating that they can't just take any game and make it great.

  • It's a completely valid criticism.

From games have tried to branch out into a different genre and didn't quite pull it off. If a racing car game dev made an RPG and it was just a game where you raced cars would you also say it doesn't matter? Makes no sense.

It shows they're not quite as versatile as their fanboys make them out to be.

  • Such a remarkably overvalued company. I'd be surprised if it's still around in a few decades. Feels like they're the MySpace of today - they're big and have first mover advantage but have nothing interesting down the line and newer companies will and are supplanting it.

  • Do you just need an adblock extension on chrome? Should be an easy fix. Or the O&O shutup program may work as well, have used that in the past effectively.

I use Chrome on Windows and have never seen this, or at least, not for years so hard to know where the setting is to disable exactly.

Lol @ the responses saying to switch OS. Such extreme views.

  • Yep... Moving to Lemmy it's quite surprising how much of an echo chamber the Linux group has on here.

It's a good OS, but being honest Windows is likely better for almost everyone as it's a lot simpler to understand with good support. Don't have to worry about comparability as much or other things either.

  • Your statement and the original one can both be in sync with another.

Microsoft Word is just a glorified notepad but it still improves my productivity significantly.

And everyone will have different uses depending on their needs. Chatgpt has done nothing for my productivity/usually adds work as I have to double check all the nonsensical crap it gives me for example and then correct it.

  • Apple purposely will not integrate this to keep a walled garden around their ecosystem and make messaging between apole/Android a shit experience.

In a perfect world everyone would just adopt rcs, it's better for consumers but Apple only gives a shit about branding/$$$.

  • Most crypto is just a vague promise of making lots of money or changing the world, but ultimately it ends up just being a scam/pyramid scheme. Worldcoin is interesting only because the founders have some legitimate experience behind them in the real world, but may just be panning out the usual crypto way.

  • I found similar. This is the most disappointing final fantasy game I have ever played, and I have played all the mainline ones outside of the mmos.

The combat was meaningless and the story was a bit much. It went way too hard into action adventure vs the RPG elements for me, and was too big a departure from previous games. At least there'll be ff7 next year which will return more to its core.

  • Ok this is pretty easy lol.

So if we go by steam charts and other factors, the most played games are f2p yes. Fortnite, csgo and dota 2 are in the top 5. The top 2 spots are f2p. So yes, those are the most popular games and this isn't even a peak time for them and they're far more popular than a game like bg3.

A f2p game is by definition free. That's the choice the devs made and whether it works or not is up to how good the game is and how enticing their microtransactions are. But yes - I do not have to spend any money to play them. The game is literally free. If someone else pays for an item and gives it to you, are you going to argue the item wasn't free? It makes no sense.

Also, so they make fortnite worse? Dota 2 worse? Cs go worse? The answer is no, it makes zero difference. But they do make excellent games free. I don't see how you could possibly argue that those games are bad purely because they have microtransactions. That's the issue I have with your argument as it's illogical.

Also, microtransactions encourage devs to hide fixes behind paywalls? This is flat out wrong when it's purely cosmetic, and in most games I think it's also wrong. You get powercreep issues which is an issue with those sorts of games, but I think that happens in any sort of long game (thinking card games in particular like hearthstone).

I think you are just playing bad games which is the issue, or just haven't thought this through as I said.

If someone wants to spend thousands on microtransactions for cosmetics and enjoy it, then that's their prerogative as well. Where it's predatory it sucks, but otherwise I've gone down that hole and really enjoyed spending money on cool cosmetics or to enjoy a game more for a time. When I've had the money it's made good games even more enjoyable, but I still loved the base game otherwise I wouldn't be spending money on it.

  • You can have completely f2p games though that everyone can enjoy and that has microtransactions though. Then everyone can enjoy the game and if they want to spend money then do so. That was the point of my post.

It's awful paying full price for a game with microtransactions though, that is shitty for sure.

  • I've been able to play games (and apps) for free because of microtransactions and I assume you have as well. Most of the most popular games in the world are free thanks to microtransactions and allow millions of players to enjoy great games for free.

I have purposely bought microtransactions to support the developer because I've enjoyed the game so much and wanted to give back. You may not have, but that's ok.

So no, to say that microtransactions just make a game bad is a very poor understanding of the issue. It's incredible we can play some absolutely amazing games without having to pay a cent.

Please think a bit more critically about this issue instead of a knee-jerk reaction that microtransactions are bad.

  • This is a poor take.

You can have games without micro transactions that are trash, and f2p games with micro transactions that are great.

It's not binary black or white and ultimately it's the game/developer that is great, not the business model.
