This reminds me of a post in a pensioners' forum where an elderly lady posted '[forename] didn't wake up today' with the yellow rofl emoji background.

I like your way of thinking but for a Christian it doesn't work like that. They will likely say that despite God's intentions, this person went consciously against God's will and decided to commit a sin (because God gave us free will).

And then good luck explaining to them how nobody in their right mind would want to be ridiculed, cast out, ostracised, hated by so many people and become trans just simply out of spite.

Or it's just the result of the aggressive Russian champagne campaign.

I used to have this otherwise kind and friendly but absolutely not sharp coworker who always tried to force laughs out of you whenever she tried to say something funny. Like, you would be there, smiling, and she comes over, grabs you by the arms, starts shaking them and laughs very loud while looking you in the eye with her crazy stare until you do, too.

Yeah... whenever I see someone apply these exaggerated emojis to their mild content I just think they are somewhat similar.

Who in their right mind looks at this and starts to laugh so hard that they literally end up in tears?

A few days ago some random guy got into an argument with the other team. He wrote two sentences, ~5-6 words each. The other guy was complaining that he "wrote a paragraph". I'm really trying to hold back my inner "these kids nowadays" grandpa but some days are a bit harder.

I'm just secretly hoping that the term 'astrocomb' comes from Spaceballs.

My first goal was to preferably have 2 meaty days a week and leave the rest meat free. After about three years I got to the point where I realised I hadn't eaten meat in a while. I simply forgot to.

Now I just eat meat when I visit friends and family, or to keep my iron levels in check. It's surprisingly doable.

I know. I mentioned WhatsApp because at least it's big enough for many of them to know or be comfortable with. Even I don't know the rest of the options too much, but apart from my brothers, not many of my relatives and friends know about Signal or Telegram (or whatever could be any better - note that it isn't even an English speaking or big country). And with that, we're back to square one with the niche problem.

EDIT: And I also don't know if I can make calls and share media both from PC and phone. It's a plus if I don't need a separate client on PC. Even more of a plus if I can just use a website without an app on phone.

This is great news and in any civilised country it would be enough to topple the government, or at least knock a few corrupt politicians out of their chair. Too bad it's playing in Hungary, instead. Don't get me wrong, I'm still hoping for the best, but there was a similar spark of hope back when one of Orbán's former oligarchs turned against him. Nothing happened, the propaganda worked and the masses voted for them again.

Then Gábor Kaleta, the Hungarian Ambassador of Peru was caught having watched terabytes of child pornography on a CP site. While he was actually condemned, he only got one year suspended prison sentence and a laughable amount of fines (considering the crime, the volume and his position): 540K HUF which amounts to ~1360 EUR. Did that make people totally pissed? Not really. The governing party, FIDESZ made a law "against paedophiles" to "protect children and families", and intentionally mashed paedophiles and gay people together, making bookstores wrap any kind of book that may contain the slightest amount of LGBT topic. Their voters were happy for it.

Then József Szájer, the MP of the gay bashing, Brussels hating government's coalition party, KDNP (Christian Democratic People's Party) was caught trying to escape out of the window, down the gutter pipe from a gay gangbang party, with some kind of drug (Ecstasy?) in his backpack, wearing only underpants. Did Fidesz's support decrease? Hell, no. They won another 2/3 of the votes on the next election.

Then (more recently), due to some unlikely luck, someone found out that the President of the Republic pardoned a person who was trying to cover up for the paedophile head of a foster home who abused a dozen kids (these pardons are usually not made public for some reason). Some investigation started and it turned out that she (the PotR) was pressioned by the aforementioned KDNP's main politicians. For the pardon to take effect, the head of the Ministry of Justice also had to confirm it. Guess what, that person is Judit Varga, the ex wife in the main article. They (the PotR and Varga) both resigned, but the KDNP member refused to. Did that discourage people from supporting FIDESZ? Not the slightest bit. The ones who were never the strongest fans and neutral/opposition voters got outraged by it, understandably. But FIDESZ's 2/3 was still standing strong. Imagine MAGA level ignorance.

...aaaaand now, as it turns out, the HEAD of the friggin' MINISTRY OF JUSTICE knew about this investigation going on about Völner, even warned him to stop, and did absolutely nothing when he even refused to stop. Not just that, but according to the recording, she even knew about the Cabinet chief trying to tamper with sensitive documents and scripts about this case (trying to cut ties to themselves).

I wonder if the voters are outraged by this more than the fearmongering done by FIDESZ about LGBT people, Soros, immigrants (while they are the ones trying to incorporate/settle Chinese policemen to expand the CCP's surveillance, Philippino bus drivers, Thai battery factory workers, etc.), the EU, Western European states and a former prime minister (who was and is god awful to date, to be fair) taking over the country and running it into the ground. Considering the past 14 years, I think I could bet money.

I'm one of those people. I'm only using messenger, but since I message people from desktop (and I don't want to install their client, they know enough about me already), I still have to log in to the base Facebook page. After a while I started using the Feed Eradicator plugin (or what), but unfortunately I still have to log in if I want to be able to message my acquaintances.

Why am I still using Facebook messenger? Back when most of the users were still unaware about their practices, all of my friends and family joined and now it is their main way of communication. There's no way everyone important to me would just start using a second social media platform for me. Also, I can't make calls from desktop WhatsApp (which could still have a chance to become a substitute for most of the people I know). Anything else is just too niche for most of them to install for the sake of one person. Or three.

I wish there was a good practical solution because I'd prefer not being part of this ugly machine, but until then, I'll have to stick with it.

There's zillions of them, but the graphic says monthly active users. Unless there's a zombie apocalypse going on, which would actually explain a few things.

It's crazy how I know which comment you meant. Lemmy still feels more like living in a small village where everyone knows everyone. Or it was just pure coincidence, who knows.

This is an old "joke" and I heard a similar version of it in my (non-English speaking) country like 25 years ago. Like, also going into fine detail about who is whose relative, as a consequence. Saying "NO this is not a stupid joke" won't suddenly make it not a stupid joke. Also, observe the profile pic and tell me if she looks like a typical 14-16 year old.
