the last 4 elections I'd voted L > C > C > L

Im a moderate. I thought that the Trudeau Liberals had gone too far left back during the Scheer and Otoole days. Come this time around, I just lost any confidence I had in the Conservative party because they built their identity on "we're not the liberals". and failed to convince me they werent just going to kowtow to American Corpo-Fascist interests.

But if you would have asked me about specific policies that irked me to turn Conservative during the past .. its been a long time, I'd probably just point to specific times and incidents over the gun policy, immigration, corruption with the SNC lavalin scandal, and maybe foreign policy. I live in a very ignorant and uneducated town in a NS riding that had been pretty hardcore conservative the last 2-3 elections, and my peers probably played a hand in influencing my issues. I thought our riding was solidly going to remain Conservative, CTV projected Cons won, but several hours later they reversed it and Libs have apparentley won it.

Foreign Policy has always been a major "issue" of mine too, Until 2025 when we were faced with the nonzero possibility of actual aggression and conflict with America, the biggest thing that would influence my vote was how seriously the party was going to take the issue of us being more or less, de-facto at war with Russia, Because the "shadow" World War III is something that in my mind took precedent.

Im assuming you're talking about Pierre, I have no interest in watching Shoigu unless its the announcement that he got merked.

In the conservatives mind, this election was close, The conservative voter base has gotten even further right wing, They're overdue for their Trump Effect takeover like what happened to the Republican party in USA. , where the party doubles down on the ideology.

the Peoples Party has been a flop for the last 3 elections, the only reason it existed was because Bernier was pissed off that he lost the Conservative leadership to Scheer (or was it Otoole?).

Im expecting a civil war within the party, the PPC will probably fold and rejoin the conservatives, and the Conservatives will go even farther right wing next time, Maple MAGA time. The loud populist conspiracy anti woke faction will probably drown out the moderate conservatives.

Side note, Carleton riding had like 20 or 30 independent candidates. I have to believe that is some specific targetting of Polievre, its only weird that we didnt see the same thing in the Neapan riding next door.

If im not mistaken, last election there was someone running in Quebec named Maxime Bernier, no relation to the PPC, but same riding. . He was a Rhino Party candidate I think.

Honestley, I was going to vote conservative, even after Trump. And then Pollievre went into third gear with Woke Derangement Syndrome, the guy was having unhinged rants. I dont think anyone from the EU is going to take concrete steps to a Canadian application, because they havent concretely ruled out that America wont physically invade it. Its an insane prospect, but this world is already insane.

Europe is already dealing with a hostile Russia, They can probably handle Russia alone, They can't handle Russia + America, so unless we're all ready to write it off and Blast each other with nuclear weapons, I think Europe has quietley agreed that if America does turn psycho, and the cost of keeping America Neutral, and not allied with Russia, is sacrificing Canada, they will Sacrifice Canada in a heartbeat.
